In Delhi for 4 to 6 weeks

I'll be in Delhi for between four to six weeks, conducting research at the National Archives. I'm looking for somewhere reasonable within walking distance. Any suggestions would be gratefully received

The National Archives is located the Inter-section of Janpath and Rajpath i.e basically in the heart of where all the government buildings are (near the India gate area) .....i am not too positive on you being able to get anything within walking distance coz there's not much available. There are a lot of government residences which of course is out of the question...

All i can think of is say Lodhi Road area on one side, Bengali market on the other...

...ill need to take a look at the map..let me get back post that.

Im having a bit of a hard time being able to give you some solid leads. The problem remains...that entire area has very few places to stay "within walking distance".... whats your definition of this anyway...1-2 miles or more/less

Does the metro serve this area? If so that would help a bunch to expand the area. Also, find a good bar since archive people tend to throw one back. Actually, my best leads came out of such..

When are you coming here? June? Forget walking distance, who wants to walk in the heat?

Live somewhere near-ish .. traffic is bad but not as bad as other Indian Cities (ahem, Mumbai)... Safdarjung Enclave and Hauz Khas are nice but maybe a little expensive.

4-6 weeks also will be a problem. Most places want 11 month leases. I have had to do major networking to get out of that one. You might be able to find a PG accommodation (are you coming alone?) or a guesthouse.. but even guesthouses will be around 2000 a night... go for PG accommodation if you can.

The metro is an excellent idea. And I believe it does serve that area, generally speaking. Maybe a Delhi-ite can confirm.

The lesser MPs are amenable to renting out a section or more of their official quarters in South Avenue...one needs to identify the appropriate contact to so facilitate which is not an impossible task.

yes but not to the degree where OP can walk i think.I would appreciate another Delhite double confirming this but from what i am aware of there are 4-5 possibilities of getting of near here..

Central Secretariat
Patel Chowk
Barakhamba Road
Mandi House
Khan Market

Nothing is walkable...well it is but then you are looking at 30 minute walks...
