1. Uppal's Orchid ... luxury ... good restaurants ... 10-15 minutes from the airport ... about US$120.

2. Shanti Palace ... far from luxury but only 5-10 minutes from the airport ... $80-100.

3. Radisson ... near Shanti Palace ... presumably luxury; don't know rates.

4. Many others, most questionable looking, on the road that includes Shanti and leads to Radisson.

Radisson is the best bet, though its crowded nowadays nearby, as a lot of road construction activity going on there.

Budget?

Hotels near the airport are usualy expensive.

I don't know if there are any in the Delhi hotel listings section but it's a good place to start.

If you got cash to spend try the Radisson. Just a few minutes to the airport.

If you are on a budget try one of the various small budget hotels located on National Highway 8 (I think also known as Gurgaon Road). This is also just a few minutes away from the airport.

Last year I had the pleasure of having 7 hours to check each of these hotels on NH8. Should really have taken a notepad and undertaken a proper review of each one.

After a couple of hours viewing hotel rooms I got bored and stayed at the Shalimar Hotel. A deluxe room cost about 900Rs which was OK. I was not too impressed with some of the other hotels on NH8 as the rooms smelt of damp and cigarettes. I had a few more hours to waste so I walked to a local bazaar (towards Radisson on NH 8) .

Good recommendations by Shere. Hotels in Mahipalpul [NH8 delhi-gurgaon road] are more suitable if cost is a consideration. Otherwise there's Radisson and Uppal's Orchid ecotel hotel that are at par with any international hotel. Ashok Country Resort on Rajokri road is a bit far off if you have to go to the domestic airport.

Delhi Hotel by the airport

Can anyone recommend a cheap (but clean!) hotel by Delhi Airport. Arriving late evening (10pm) at IGI airport and leaving next morning (10am) out of domestic. I understand that the retiring rooms are no more and I don't fancy a long ride into town and back just to sleep for a few hrs

Thanks.
Joe

There are a few hotels at Mahipalpur crossing on the Delhi side.
Sartaj Hotel, Shanti International etc. They are a stone's throw from the Airport.
But if you truly want to rest as well, then you can try The lemon Tree Hotel at Gurgaon. Best Bet would be to stay at Uppals's Orchid. Even the Radisson is close to the airport.

Question Delhi - airport hotel

Hi. I am flying from Varanasi to Jodhpur and have to stopover at Delhi (from 4 p.m. to noon next day). I guess it makes no sense to go to Paharganj to a cheap hotel and pay for taxis. So, could anybody recommend any hotel close to the Delhi Domestic Airport to stay for a night?

I have did some search and found some hotels at Mahipalpur. The cheapest seems to be the "International Inn Airport Hotel" and "The Rblues Airport Hotel", both for about 550 INR per double. Any experience regarding these hotels? Or do you have any other suggestions?

How much would be the price for taxi from Domestic Airport to these hotels - it should be a 5-minute drive? Should I take a pre-paid taxi even for this short drive.

Thanks a lot for any help.

Hi, If you look at Hotels and Lodgings section and then under Delhi - you'll find an absolute MASS of lodgings that have been tried and tested - also some that haven't. The nearer to the Airport usually the more expensive - and I would probably suggest a pre-paid taxi or why not an Auto - 5 minutes is not very far and it'll be a lot cheaper than a taxi.

Since you are arriving in the day time, there is also the option of taking the inexpensive EATS bus (run by ex-servicemen) and getting off at the New Delhi RR station stop as an alternative to a taxi. I don't have the details as to current price and frequency, but it was mentioned in a recent thread -- perhaps someone who has used the service recently can comment.

also, whats the distance between international and domestic airports?.

please give the links to the hotels or email addresses. thanks.

Delhi Airport Hotel

Hi. Before going to India for a trip I have been trying to get good information about a cheap hotel near Delhi Airport without any good results. After my trip I can try to fill this gap for others a little.

There is several hotels near Mahipal Pur crossing in the middle between the Delhi international and domestic airport terminals - it is about 10 minutes by autoriksha. Appart from upmarket Radisson Hotel there is a string of several rather expensive hotels there including Swapnil International Airport Hotel, Hotel Star, R Blues Airport Hotel, and International Inn Airport Hotel (in the order of room prices). The cheapest is the International Inn Airport Hotel where we have their cheapest room - an underground hole with attached bathroom and TV for Rp. 650; managable but definitely not up to its price. Besides rether expensive restaurants in some of these hotels, there is also one reasonable cheap restaurant next to these hotels.

Only after setting at the International Inn we have seen cheaply looking Hotel East West and three Guest Houses on the 100-metre between the above mentioned hotel string and the very Mahipal Pur crossing. We did not check any of these places but I would bet you can get cheaper room there to wait for your flight. I would recommend to take autoriksha to e.g. R Blues Hotel and go on foot to explore these cheaper possibilities. If they will reveal to be too much to manage you can always go back to those mentioned above. Good luck.

During October 2004, I visited nearly every one of these hotels. The only decent one I found was Hotel Shalimar.

The rest of them were pretty awful. In the Star hotel and many of the others the rooms smelt very badly of damp. The prices were pretty high for what you was getting.

I remember 3/4 years ago you could have a room in these hotels for 400RS now they want 1000RS even though demand for them has fallen as a lot of Punjabis now fly into Amritsar.
