Hotel near Delhi Airport
Hotel near Delhi Airport
After reading various comments about arriving in Delhi, it seems to me wiser to sleep overnight near the airport, collect ones wits and sleep and fly off the next day to aurangabide. I'll return and see Delhi at the end. Therefore, can I get recommendations for hotels near the airport. I don't need luxury but want cleanliness.
I have had many experiences with bed bugs, etc. Luxury hotels seem to avoid this although I don't know if this is because of their clientele or something active they do. In general is there any advice about this in India?

Thanks for your replies. This is a marvelous site. It used to be that the only way to really know something abroad was to actually go there because information obtained elsewheres was usually not accurate or wrong.
Do have any idea of the name of that hotel opposite the airport? Is India crowded with tourists this Winter?

few things you can do...
(1) STay at the airport itself - cheap & best way I gues!
(2) Stay at those new hotels that have mushroomed between the International and domestic airport (yes, the Radisson is closeby as well). Though, I doubt if you will be able to sleep as you are next to the National Highway # 08. at night, all teh trucks are allowed within the city and they will surely be honking throughout the night! Cleanliness is another issue.
(3). Dole out a lot of money and stay the the luxury hotels that have been recommended in this post.
(4). Arrange a pick up service & stay at those hotels near the NEw Delhi train station (Yes, I am reering to Paharganj). The YMCA is a bit expensive in this category but located in a nice & quiet road. It is expensive but not THAT expensive compared to the star hotels. Let me PM you one web address as well.

1. I second mountaingirls nos 4 suggestion.
2. Don't worry too much about delhi its ok once you settle into your hotel.
3. For a fraction of the money you'll pay for a decent hotel near the airport u could arrange to have a cab pick up.
4. namaste india tours, a member on this site seems to have good deals.
5. The one that i know personally that is reliable is www.travelindia.com. They are good usually so just book a hotel thro. them within yr. budget and a cab pik up and get the info that u need. These guys are good and its smooth sailing then on.
6. Give them yr. budget. If its not in their league they'll still give proper directions as namaste india tours does too.
7. A good and reliable guide at the initial part of yr. tour makes it worth the while as it helps in the process of figuring things out. After that u don't need the guide, so keep that part short and it'll work out much cheaper.

Ah, the eternal dilemma: seeking a pleasant and convenient place to lay your head between flights, but not wanting to spend a fortune (by Indian standards) on what amounts to a 12-hour stay.
The kind of "nice" and "near" that Bijapuri refers to is indeed costly, but can be had for under $100. Check out the Ashok Country Resort, 4 km. from the international terminal. Their rates are listed on their website, http://www.ashokcountryresort.com/index.htm .
Our guests stayed there a few times. It's quite a nice, relaxing place. Sometimes it had an odd, deserted feel, but that may have changed if they're attracting more guests.

hotel near Delhi airport
Hi everyone,
I'm going to arrive in Delhi around 10AM and need a place to stay for the day until my flight to Jaipur the next morning. Could anyone suggest a hotel that is:
1) near the airport
2) relatively comfortable
3) not outrageously priced
Thank you in advance!

There are enough cheap hotels on NH8 (Gurgaon Road).
They range in price from RS250 to RS 1200 a night (double ac room).
One I stayed at a few months ago was the Shalimar Hotel
Its address is :
NH # 8, 'A' Block, Road No. 4, Mahlpalpur, N. Delhi 110037
Tel : 011 26789711/9722
email : shalimar_hotel1@yahoo.co.in
The hotel was clean relative to the others I saw on NH 8 and the rooms did not smell of damp and cigarettes like in some of the others.
It has a restaraunt on the ground level and it is very clean and food OK.

I tried Hotel Centaur for one night in 2003 upon arrival at the international terminal about 10PM. The Centaur was established and run for many years by Air India tho it may have been sold off recently. It is a 4-5 star place and not a cheapie but certainly comfortable and convenient.
