Help getting to New Delhi train station at dawn from hotel in Old Delhi

We are taking the 6:50 am train from Delhi to DheraDun, so we'll want to be on the platform by about 6:30. It will be a Sunday morning.

If we stay at an Old Delhi Hotel, (possibly Tara Palace) how can we get to the New Delhi train station at that early morning hour? How long does it take? Could we walk or take the Metro? Or should we take a taxi? If taxi, can we flag one down on the street or should we reserve one for hotel pickup? How much should I expect to pay for a taxi?

I know -- a lot of questions! Appreciate your help and suggestions!

Pre organising a taxi would be the best in your situation. Ask your hotel to do it for you and make sure you stress about the Taxi being on time.

I think in this situation it's better to stay at Paharganj or Arakashan road.

Yes you can take the Metro, the service start 6.00 am onwards & it will take just 10mts to reach New Delhi Station & 5 mts wallk to the Platfrom no. 16( Dehradun Shatabdi start from here) which is adjacent to Metro exit.
