Hi Gino,
Depending the area you are staying in Delhi Imiker's will advice you. As much of people stays in Paharganj you can get very good food in Metropolis Hotel Restaurant (very good food and cool beers) and on the other side of the block in Rest Malhotra really good food (no beer available) and another Malhotra's for Dosas (open a week ago) Jorge |

It depends where you're staying. My hotel in Delhi was in Sundar Nagar (New Delhi). I had amazing meals in Sweets Corner for ridiculously cheap and also at Nathus.

Thanks for your propositions!
I like traditional Indian food, when I stay in India and I will try all kinds. My budget is different. once a week I will eat more extensive, the other days I will eat at a stand on the street or in a lowbudget restaurant. Does anyone knows some Indian words for the conventional dishes? But when I tell more, I became hungry! Gino |

If you eat exactly what a regular Indan person in the street eats, you are bound to get Delhi Belly. If I were in exactly the same mind as yours I will try to eat at those places that have an 'expensive' looking interior, is frequented by other foreighn people and the tabs come to something about Rs.500 per night. But what you do is compeletely your choice, If you are prepared to handle the risk, good luck to you! I for sure appreciate that what you are thinking.

Mays! Those are such generic recommendations!
![]() I'll expand on those reccomendations - paneer or chicken makhani is usually pretty good (Butter chicken/Paneer), "do piaza" is also quite yummy. Black daal is very tasty and cheap, and once you get sick of "real indian" food try out the chilly paneer/chicken. Yum. I think the OP may have already left Delhi? But I'll second Malhotra in Paharganj, it's always pleasant and has a nice atmosphere. And if you sit near the front counter you can watch the TV - the manager always seems to have it on! |

I went to Metropolis after reading great opinions on guidebooks and here, but I didn't like it so much.
It's too much "tourist oriented" in my opinion. I mean, it's not a western fast food, but all the people eating there were western tourist (and it was low season), and dishes served were stuff you expect to eat in India, when you're a tourist (difficult to explain, I think...) ciao vale |

The best restaurant in Paharganj? In the square with the Navrang hotel and the Rak International. Go up the lane on the left of the Rak, keep bearing right and you will come to a lane which eventually ends up back in the main bazaar. About half way down this lane, about 250m I guess, there is a largish restaurant on the right. I have had some of the best meals in Delhi here, I usually have mixed veg with bread and curd, comes to about Rs 25.
Good eating, Colin |

Try Savana Bhavan (sp?) by the Hotel Alka- oh, it's so good.
I think that the motivation for staying in Delhi as long as I plan to in May is to eat everything on the menu here.... I love this place! I am dreaming of idly (sp?) while I type |
