From Delhi airport to Parharganj
From Delhi airport to Parharganj
Hi all!
Going to India for the firs time at the begining of January, but I have traveled before trough the rest of Asia a lot...
I fly in to Delhi at 11:00 p.m. and would like to know what would you suggest as the best/cheapest way to get to the Parharganj area (how much?) and which place to stay would you recomend for 200-300 RS double-bed in this area?
Anroop hotel for 250 RS double-bed sounds good, has anyone have experience with it?
I am not stingy asking about this prices, but just want to get a picture/idea for the prices there...
Thanks!

Hi Brainworks,
Thanks for joining the site.
From the Airport in Delhi you have a couple of options, one is to take a prepaid taxi from the airport and they will drop you off in Paharganj. Most drivers will know the Anoop Hotel if you are planning on staying there.
The rate for a prepaid taxi is around 180 rupees give or take.
Sometimes you can also share a taxi with someone else, since many people head that way.
In the Airport terminal taxis are arranged outside and you just go to a booth, try to find the government run ones, and just pay in advance and a driver takes you to your destination. They give you a receipt when you pay and you just hand the receipt over to the driver when you arrive where you want to be.
A few years ago this used to be a major hassle dealing with taxis but now it's pretty straightforward and pretty organized.
There is also a bus at the international terminal which also makes the run for a cheaper price, though it takes a little longer since they make some other stops. I haven't taken the bus but referencing from an older thread the price was around 60 rupees and I do believe they make stops at Connaught Place (about a fifteen minute walk from Paharganj) and stop at the New Delhi Railway Station. The stop is on the opposite side of the station and you have to also walk back to Paharganj--another fifteen or twenty minute walk. A bicycle rickshaw from both stops should be no more than ten rupees though this price changes on how desperate you look for a ride and you will have to haggle for this.
To find the bus just go out the airport past the taxi stands and look for the line of people.
The Anoop Hotel is an okay choice, it's a very large Hotel that has basic bed and bath rooms. I haven't stayed there personally but have poked around the Hotel and looked at the rooms. It's basically just a bed and a bath. Avoid the rooms on the front facing the Main Bazaar as the noise will probably keep you up all night.
One advantage of the Anoop is that it's full of tourists so if your looking for conversation you will find it there. The 24 hour rooftop restaurant is also surprisingly decent and is a good place to kick back and see the city skyline.
I believe Anoop also offers an Airport Pickup to though this would probably be around 200 rupees.
Hope this helps some.
Mike
