First Arrival

OK - In three weeks time I will be in India and I am VERY excited!

I arrive in Delhi at 5.30am and have organised a pick up to the Hare Krishna Hotel in Paharganj. I have to stay in Delhi for four days, when my cousin is flying out to meet me. I have done my research on Delhi and know about all the sights I want to see: Red Fort, National Museum etc. My question is this: What should I do when I first arrive in Paharganj? Any tips on how to ease myself into things?

Thanks!

Ben

You could find someplace either with street seats or a street view, perhaps with other westerners there and have breakfast or a drink, watch the world go by and get a feel for the place ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

First of all you take some rest in the hotel. As you know that now a day's temparture is very high so it is better for you to start to see the thing in early morning or late afternoon. From pharganj cannaught circle is also not far away so for first day you room around cannaught circle.
Second day you should hire a auto and visit all the alaces and you should not give too much money to the auto person and when you hire a auto first ask for the meter and then hire please pay the money after see the meter.
All the palaces you want to visit in delhi not far from your hotel apart from the red fort.

Can you tell me you booked the hotel or not?
Second how much you want to pay them and dont carry toomuch money with you it is better fir you if you take with you some traveller chaqe not cash.

Always take all the expensive stuff with you don't leave into the room.

Thanks and regard's

Arvind

Thanks for advice so far, all taken on board.

Sorry if anyone thinks I'm asking a crappy question here, but I find that getting the first few days right is always important to how you feel about a place. If your first impression is bad, it can take a while to get over it.

One of the things I saw in Delhi was an artificial lake in the shadows of an old fort... they had paddle boats for rent (for not too much) - which made for an enjoyable evening

Not a crappy question. Do as others suggested. By the time your cousin arrives, you will be an expert in Delhi. How long will you be in India?. Enjoy your stay.

Hi Webtraveller, I'm going to be India for about six weeks. Would have stayed longer but got to get back for a new job that starts at the beginning of September.
