Firework in Delhi
Hi guys,
I heard that there is a street in Chandni Chowk where I can buy firework. Is it cheap? We are going to India next month, and my wife loves firework. If I buy some from that street, where can I light them up? Is there any law in that regard? Can I light them up in Connaught Place? (That's where my hotel will be located.) |

The fireworks shops are located just behind Jama Masjid. They do brisk business during Diwali when people celebrate Diwali festival with fireworks.
I would certainly not advise you to try these in CP. Talk to your hotel management, they may allow you to try these on their roof top. |

On roof top? Really? Is that safe? I am planning to buy some nice big ones. I thought there is a decent size park in the center of CP. (From google map, it's about 150m in diameter.) Not good enough for fireworks?

Central park in CP - very well managed, situated on top of the Metro train station. You won't be allowed to have a fireworks display over there.

Safe? This is India we're talking about, where "safe" is rather an abstract concept at best.
Having said that, a Hotel Rooftop is probably one of the safest places you could find to set off your fireworks, what makes you think that would be less safe than a public park full of children and adults, many of who have absolutely no idea how dangerous fireworks can be? Every year Delhi runs safety campaigns before Diwali, yet every year many many people are still maimed and blinded because they just don't "get it".

I wouldn't do it. First off, fireworks are incredibly polluting. Second, there's no such thing as safety or quality checks and people die/are maimed every year while setting off fireworks. Last diwali I was sitting on my rooftop terrace and it felt like being in an artillery barrage with burning/smoldering crap landing all around me, and I live in a calm neighborhood. What are you going to do, btw, if you set something ablaze? It's been known to happen.
You can light them up in CP, whether or not you'll be hauled off by the cops is a different matter. No offense but I think the fireworks thing is not a brilliant idea. |
