Pretty much everywhere! There are shops of every size & markets all over the place. Just check out near wherever you are staying. Delhi is huge & every area has shopping from inexpensive to expensive. If you know the area you will be in, let us know for more specific help.

Thanks for the quick response
I'm coming from Rhode Island, and will be alone in Delhi for five days (well might take 2 days to see birds in Bharatpur) before I meet my cousin and I'm quite apprehensive, first time traveling aloneI've booked a place in Paharganj. Guide says Khadi Gramodyog Bhawan at Connaught might begood. Do you have any suggestions? Also do you know where would be a good place to meet fellow backpackers as well? Cheers and thanks a bunch ![]() |

Being alone for the first time will be a challenge. Delhi is very intense & you will find yourself fending off friendly people and annoying people & touts. If you ignore them, it works best. Until you get used to being there, which takes some time, especially because jet lag makes you even slightly out-of-it. I don't know that place you mentioned, but definitely check it out. Have a wonderful time. Once you are with your cousin, it will be easier! |

Delhi is great, I especially love the gange as far as tourist ghettos go. Make use of the underground, which is modern, efficient and fairly easy to negotiate. The tuk tuk drivers are not worth the effort unless you have to go to a place far off the line.
You will be jumping in at the deep end but honestly, no one ever forgets the first time they arrive in India! |

The Khadi shop in CP is great for simple Khadi (handspun cotton) kurta pajamas or lightweight cotton fabrics for shirts, etc. Some other shops to go to are FabIndia (CP or other branches) for good quality clothes and Anokhi (Khan Market) for excellent clothes. Of course, you will probably see hundreds of shops in Paharganj selling you very cheap clothes but these are fairly low quality and will not last as long as the others. Be careful the first time that the clothes are washed as certain colours may run.
PM me if you need any more info. |
