Few spare days in Delhi

I am visiting Delhi in mid-April on business and will have 4 days, maybe 5 days, spare to sight see. I was thinking of spending 1 day going to Agra to see the Taj Mahal. I am looking for advice on where I could spend my other days. I was thinking of getting a flight somewhere not too far nor expensive. I was thinking either of these cities: Jaipur, Shimla, Leh, Udaipur or Jaiselmer. What would you recommend out of these - or should I consider elsewhere?

Thanks in advance!

Well, of the places you mentioned, Jaisalmer is easily the best, but, unfortunately, you can't get a FLIGHT there, as the airport there is closed to all but the military. Leh is wonderful, but allow yourself a couple of days, as it will take you all the first day to acclimatise. Maybe you might like to save yourself the hassle of too many flights by catching a train one evening to Agra, seeing the Taj the next day, and then going by overnight train to Jodhpur, from where you can fly back to Delhi. Jodhpur is great!

Talking Lots to do in Delhi

Hi Kinnear,

I am glad u r one of very few people who come to India on work, and allocate some time for sight seeing as well. Trust me, most others don't do it.

You can spend one day in Agra - u can see Taj Mahal, Agra Fort and Sikanda which is Emperor Akbars Tomb.

One day in Fateh pur Sikri. It was Akbars capital and has forts, palaces, mosques, gardens and his Queens palace. You will need one day to go around the place. You may want to take 2 days to do Fateh pur Sikri. it is close to AGra...and you can go from there.

One day for Delhi - You can go and see Qutub Minar, Red Fort, Purana Qila, Humayuns Tomb, Bhai Lotus Temple.... all this would take one day.

Go to Jaipur and Spend 2 days there.

Delhi - AGra - Jaipur is called the Golden Triangle in India and the roads are good. You should be able to hire a cab, and travel conveniently.

There is also a Shatabdi express between Delhi and Agra.....while you at Delhi on work, you can ask your local counter parts to help you with the bookings for hotel as well as transport. I am sure they will help u.

So, 1 day in Agra, 1 day in Fatehpur Sikri, one day in Delhi and 2 days in Jaipur.

Believe me, you will have a great time.

Hi Kinnear,

Golden Triangle (Delhi - Agra - Jaipur - Delhi)will be best suited for you, since you will be here in mid - april, better watch out for summer heat.

Generally people prefer hills during summers (LEH, SHIMLA etc). but you need to make prior arrangements because of peak season. Flight to these place are booked much in advance.

Happy travelling in India.

Agree with ranger1973. Its better you visit the hills in mid-April, instead of getting baked on the North Indian plains !

Visit Kasauli - travel in A/C comfort by Shatabdi Express upto Kalka and then take a taxi to Kasauli. It won't take more than five and a half hours to reach Kasauli, from Delhi.
Whoever said money can't buy happiness didn't know where to shop !

What about just spending the remaining time in Delhi ? Doing the Agra day trip is fine, but then there is LOADS to do/see/experience in Delhi without dtrying to do it all at 100 miles per hour - relax and soak up the atmosphere - you will probably find you like it and come back again on a longer holiday when you can explore the country.
If your head comes off your body it's all over.
