Delhi Trip - Recommendations/Rental Car
I apologize if this has been covered numerous times.
My husband and I will be going to the India Handicraft & Gift Fair in October as well as visiting suppliers in the general area. We will also have seven days for non-business. My questions are as follows: Is it a crazy idea to rent a car and drive it ourselves? We would use it for visiting suppliers and perhaps driving somewhere else other than Delhi. We are English speaking Canadians. What would you recommend we do for our non-business week. We are willing to stay in cities other than Delhi. I would imagine the Taj Mahal will be on many lists. Is it worth staying in Agra, or should we just make this a day trip via train? Any suggestions for hotels, restaurants, or trips would be greatly appreciated!! |

Thanks. I must have been looking in the wrong place. I kind of figured that might be the answer. We travel to China every few months and the thought of driving ourselves is ludicrous.

Are you seven non business days together or there is a gap?
If they are together then you can visit Agra, Amritsar, Rishikesh |

* Have an extra beer with dinner (have two!) because you're not driving back to the hotel! * Leave for the Taj on too little sleep, because you can sleep on the way -- you're not driving! * Look out the windows on the way to the Taj and stare at the wildly-different-from-Canada scenery, because you're not driving! An 8-hour car hire in Delhi with a Toyota Corolla or equivalent will be about US$30 plus tip. Cheaper if you don't mind a smaller car.

Well you should arrive and see the roads and the traffic. If you are confident you should go ahead and drive..
A driver would cost about $5 per day. |
