Delhi to Agra and back
We will be flying into Delhi from Bangalore so we can see the Taj Mahal before heading back to the states. Our flight arrives late on a Thursday night and leaves early Sunday morning. What I have in mind is this: find a hotel to stay in Thursday night, do an intense day of Delhi exploring, spend the night again at the same hotel, take the Shabati(?)train to Agra for the day, take the train back to Delhi that night, stay again at the hotel, and fly out early Sunday morning. I have read some good posts about what to do in one day in Delhi and I have read soome good posts about the train to Agra. What I am wondering about is the area where we should try to find accommodations in Delhi in oder to make this itinerary most efficient. Thanks.

Pahar Ganj would work the best because it is right next to the main train station; however, Connaught Place area is also relatively close and less of a backpacker type area, so it depends on what levels of comfort you are looking for. You could also consider spending your last night closer to the airport. Try to book your train tickets as early as possible, as it's a popular route.
