I did that trip almost 20 years ago. Bought the tour from a travel agent in Delhi. We left early in the morning by bus for Agra, stopped at a Government Shop selling nice inlaid things made from the same stone as the Taj, then went to Agra Fort, then the Taj and on the way back to Delhi stopped in Mathura and Vrindavan. Got back to Delhi about 11 pm. A really good deal if you only have 1 day. Well worth it for me.
Here's a tour company I found by doing a search. http://delhimagic.com/day_trip_taj.html Last edited by ananda2193 : Sep 15th, 2008 at 23:44. Reason: added link |

My husband and I did Delhi-Agra-Delhi taking the train (Shatabdi express) to AGra. We ended up having to take another, more local train back (ticket availability - book early!!), and had to get a autorickshaw from Nizamuddin Station back to Paharganj, so with delays, we were away on our day trip for 20 hours! But it was doable, and nice not to have to plan to stay overnight in Agra. If you want to stop at Mathura on the way, perhaps just hiring a driver for the whole day trip would be a better alternative? Depends how many are in your party, might be cost effective to divide cost of car and driver between you? |

hi i have been to agra 3 times from delhi. the best way is to take taj express which leaves at 7.10 am from nizamuddin station, u can take a autorickshaw from paharganj to nizamuudin. get off at agra cantonement , u will reach agra around 10.30am take auto from there to taj mahal and from there to agra fort and take the same train from agra cantt which leaves at 6.55pm and reaches nizamuddin at 10.30pm . (reservation is easily available 2 days before the departure ,fare is also very less for sitting class and its comfortable) u can have good food at the restaurant on the railway station )... enjoy

Hi
I did both the train as well as the bus trip to Agra and back to Delhi on the same day. My advice would be if Agra is the priority then avail the train. The simple reason being that you spend less time travelling and you get to see the monuments in Agra with much more ease. But in all probability you miss Mathura, though I am not very sure. In case of the conducted trip by bus, one would spend close to 12hrs travelling to and fro including the stopovers for B/fast, dinner etc and you get to spend very little time to see Tajmahal, Agrafort etc. But they take you to Mathura on their way back. Hence weigh your options and decide it yourself. Rgds Soura |

Is a trip to Agra possible?
Hi,
I'd be coming back to Delhi from a trek on the 25th of Dec at around 6 in the morning and I'll be catching a train back home at 9 in the night. I'd like to know if a trip to the Taj would be possible? I just want to see the Taj Mahal, not keen on going to other places around. I would prefer traveling either by bus or train. Please help. Thank you. |

No I dont think a trip to Agra is possible, the simple reason being that you cannot return to delhi by 9pm the same day.... Soura |

Oh ok
I guess I'll have to make other plans for the day then. Any suggestions for places in and around Delhi? Namitha |

I sure wouldn't enjoy a side trip to Agra if I knew there was a subtantial chance to miss an international flight. Strange things happen on the Indian road. Our bus was held up by an enraged elephant. The other passengers were irritated and I was delighted beyond belief. But, I had no schedule to keep which is the secret to to pleasurable transport in India..
