Great idea!
Just a suggestion Vinay: Will it not be better to modify the original post in the thread in order to add more events instead of making a new post? That way all the information will be at the begining of the thread, instead of numerous posts to browse through (assuming that this thread will get a lot more replies). At least the person who has posted can edit his/her original post. Just wondering.... Rohan

Wish I were in Delhi to help you
I wondered where this thread went and am glad it's back, so keep at it and maybe others will contribute. It's fun to read, keeps my interest in Delhi alive (not that I need much help in that respect!), and might even save me some surfing time as I frequently check out events at the Habitat Centre + ICC when I get bored with work. Good luck with this nice idea, Vinay |

Are You Ready For The Next Challenge? Children from all over the UK and our British Council library networks in India will be flocking to their local libraries to take part in a special reading challenge Reading Mission – and this is one top secret mission they’ll all choose to accept! The Reading Mission is a programme to encourage the habit of reading among Young Learners between the ages 5 to 14 years. It challenges children to read six or more books of their own choice from the carefully chosen list of books and become special Reading Agents. The special agent receives a uniquely designed metallic special agent attaché case like folder which open up to reveal its top secret content and explains how the mission works to the children who sign up for the challenge. They discover three missions that will test their powers of observation, their ingenuity and their logic with specially-devised activities. Parts of the mission are explained in code so agents can use the code-buster included in their pack. But cracking codes and solving puzzles is just one aspect of the dual mission – the agents have to sign up to read books, keep track of their reading, write reviews, and spread the word about how good books are using special ‘top secret’ messages! To encourage agents to complete their challenge, there will be Mission Accomplished medals and certificates to be distributed. By completing their mission, children have a genuine sense of achievement associated with the library. Last year, more than 600,000 children the world over took part in The Reading Voyage, and over 300,000 read six or more books. He studied the dramatic arts, German literature and art history in Cologne, Vienna, Hamburg and Munich. The focus of his work is on the inter-relationship between the arts, particularly theatre and visual art, Greek and Germanic myths, exchanges in the Mediterranean region, Richard Wagner, Bertolt Brecht and Heiner Müller. Storch divides his time between Volterra, Italy, and Berlin. Wolfgang Storch will be present at the opening to accompany visitors through the exhibition. He will also conduct workshops with students. More Info : The starting point and thesis of the ifa exhibition The Scenic Eye is the new understanding of theatre and fine arts that has evolved since the 1960s. Modern fine arts have taken over theatrical forms and the increasing use of pictures and signs on stage have made speechless acting a new domain. Against this background the following question can be posed: how have the two forms of art perceived the development and how have they benefited from each other? Curator Wolfgang Storch asked nineteen male and female artists to enter into an imaginary dialogue with theatre as the medium. Their task was to reflect upon the interplay of direction, production, stage, actor, and audience. The result is works of art which apply their own artistic strategies—some free, some based on literary material—to theatre. The exhibition is a lively dialogue between two closely related art forms. The installations, photographs, plates, and other objects have been created by the following artists: Klaus vom Bruch, Carlfriedrich Claus, Hartwig Ebersbach, Jochen Gerz, Rainer Görss, Magdalena Jetelová, Hans Peter Kuhn, Raimund Kummer, Mark Lammert, Olaf Metzel, Hermann Pitz, Karlheinz Schäfer, Thomas Schütte, Katharina Sieverding, Rosemarie Trockel, Günther Uecker, Wolf Vostell, Ute Weiss-Leder, Qin Yufen Place : Apeejay Media Gallery, Mathura Road, Badarpur Event : "InSight" an exhibition of artworks by Sambit Panda - 26th October to 12th November, 2006 Time : 11:00 am - 7:00 pm, opening on 26th October at 6:30 pm(till 8:30 pm) Place : Anant Art Gallery, D-299, Defence Colony, New Delhi - 110024 Phone : 41554775/6 Event : "Aatma" painting exhibition by Anthony Christian & Marian Fonny Christian - 17th October to 7th November, 2006 Time : 11:00 am - 7:00 pm Place : D-302, Defence Colony Event : Exhibition "Geometric Abstractions" by Akkitham Narayanan - 27th October, 2006 to 4th November, 2006 Time : 11:00 am - 8:00 pm, Opens on 27th October at 6.30 pm Place : Gallery Romain Rolland, Alliance Française, Next to Annex building of India International Centre, Lodhi Road Contact : 011-41012091-94 Event : Hope of Freedom Exhibition - 1956 - Hungarian Revolution - 25th October to 16th November, 2006 Time : 18:00 - 19:00 More Info : The 1956 Hungarian Revolution was the first tear in the Iron Curtain. Hungarians from all walks of life rose up against insurmountable odds to fight the brutal Soviet-installed Hungarian communist government. Thousands died fighting, others tortured and executed, while 200,000 were forced to flee. The exhibition revives the memories of this struggle fight. For complete every week or day wise listing, its a good idea to have look at http://www.delhievents.com/
It is sometimes repetetive, but still a good listing. I'll be posting some of the chosen ones some of which don't make it to the websites and/or daily news papers. |

Every year legendary dancer couple Raja and Radha Reddy organise 2-3 days dance festival in Delhi. I read somewhere that it's going to either this weekend or early next week. With almost 6-7 performances by leading dancers from all over India, its not to be missed event.
Anyone know s the exact dates and other details? I'm trying to find but if someone knows it already it would be great. |

Is there any listing that is published a month or two ahead? My husband is bringing a group of 30, mostly students, to India. Chennai has such listings. What about Delhi?
