Delhi - the beauty and the beast
being in delhi is an experience!
it`s big, it`s smelly, it`s loud, it`s a beauty...it`s ALIFE! catching an autoricshaw and driving to any place is just cracy...or the purest joy. wandering around connaught place you see the most ellegant shops and the poorest people you can emagine. some of them are deep in my heart and after spending some hours out there and being back in my room and thinking about them i can`t avoid feeling some tears roling down my cheeks. met some indiamikers here. some of the finest people i ever met. and if they would also choose me to be their friend...i already have. got delhi belly. coudn`t hardly leave my room for 3 days and spent most of the time sitting on the toilet, was happy that i had my own. , or lying in bed. drank lot`s of lemon soda (a tip from an indiamiker) and coke and it really helps. a very nice monk promised to pray for me.had my fights with autorickshaw and taxi drivers , got cheated, met a guy i met 4 weeks ago in frankfurt at the airport, met another guy i met in mc leod ganj who got droped some shit on his shoe and actually wanted to pay 50 r after having it cleaned from the same shoe shine man, couldn`t keep my mouth shut and interfered, got my ears cleaned , and so on...i actually think i could live here for some time. DELHI, my bigest love in india so far. PS: i feel i want to dive even deeper into india and think it will help if i stop being online every day. at one of the next days i will leave delhi and then stop posting on indiamike.com for some time. but as long as i`m here i will have a look and if there are some responses i will answer. all the best martin |

Hey! Sounds like you're having fun! - except for the days spent sitting on the toilet! :-( I suppose it's all part of the experience! (though it's a part of it I'm really hoping to avoid when I head over there in just over 2 weeks time!)
I know what you mean with going offline for a while. I have no intention of visiting the cyber world when I'm over there. Half the point of being there is to just disappear from all that sort of thing. I plan to leave computers, mobile phones etc. behind and just immerse myself in India! Enjoy the rest of your stay!! How long are you there? Oh! and do you know what dodgy food/drink you consumed to cause the Delhi Belly or can't it be pin-pointed?? |

what a lovely name btw, i will be here for half a year, maybe longer. after doing a bit of researche, while sitting on the loo i came to the conclusion that it can only be the french fries i ate that day at wimpys they looked pretty dark, so as if the oil was very old they where fried in.Quote:

Hey Martin, the only time I got sick in India was after eating at Wimpy's
Maybe eating there acts as a sort of "vaccination", and you'll be fine for the rest of your trip! Have fun. We're all awaiting your return to IM. |

Was in India last October; returning in 3 weeks' time (can't wait!). Stayed in Delhi for a total of 4 days (used it as my base) - well, how does one describe New Delhi. Billions of faces, billions of varying descriptions of transport, farm animals crossing mind-numbingly busy streets, cows, goats, beggars, lepers, you name it New Delhi has it... dusty, polluted, humid, noisy, loud - a city that tests your patience to the nth degree!!
But . . . . . . but I loved New/Old Delhi. Just sitting in one of those little curry joints off of Connaught Square, eating some channa chat, some rice, nan, ice-cold water, listening to all the accents, looking at a baffling array of faces and bodies, smelling the aroma that makes India so tantalising . . . the spices, the twang of a sitar - JUST EVERYTHING... the bizarre and the baffling - that is New Delhi . . . THAT is India!! And I love it!! |
