Delhi taxi meter conversion factor?
You'd think there would be something on the web about this, but the only conversion chart I found on the web was from 1997.
What is the current conversion factor for the meter reading? Take the amount and multiply it by...? Many thanks! |

That depends on the time of day and the legitimacy of the chart.
I've never understood them(even with 5 years of calculus) and never used them ..... with one exception when the chart he showed me when entering suddenly was much different and more expensive then the one he pulled out when settling the fare .... some people swear by them but I recommend negotiating the cost up front especially if you know where you are going and the associated distance.

OP
Somebody had posted on IM a JPEG file (I think) that had the meter conversion for Mumbai (if I remember correctly) - could that be similar to that in Delhi? Cheers Nattusbs |

No, there's no relationship between Mumbai and Delhi; the meters were calibrated in different years.
I've never had a big problem getting taxi drivers to honor official rates, all over India. If you try to set the price in advance, of course you'll get an inflated price. Of course my ethnicity and ability to speak pidgin Hindi helps considerably. |

Lemme give you the figures for Delhi, they dont have no chart, they are supposed to work by meter..which are updated as per current rates..
Auto-Rickshaw : Rs.8 for first Kilometer (upon downing the meter) and thereafter Rs.3.50 per Kilometer for every additional Kilometers Night Charges - 25% of the Fare(11.00PM to 5.00 AM) Waiting Charges -Rs.20 per hour or part thereof (subject to minimum of 15 min stay) Luggage - Rs.5 per piece except for shopping bags or a small attaché case Taxis(Black & Yellow Top) - Rs.13/- for first Kilometer (upon downing the meter) and thereafter Rs.7/- per Kilometer for every additional Kilometers Night Charges - 25% of the Fare(11.00PM to 5.00 AM) Waiting Charges - Rs.20 per hour or part thereof (subject to minimum of 15 min stay) Luggage - Rs.10/- per piece except for shopping bags or a small attaché case Taxi - 1st Kilometer Rs.13, and subsequent Kilometers Rs.7. That means that if you tavel 6 kilometers by taxi then.. (13 X 1) + (5 X 7) = 13 + 35 = Rs.48 |

OK, thank you! I did not realize that Delhi meters get updated to reflect current rates.
No reason they should not be updated, but in Kolkata, for example, even digital meters (very easy to update) are never updated. |
