Delhi: Shopping malls around the Taj hotel?

I'll be in Delhi next week staying at the Taj hotel and wanted to know if anyone knows of any indoor shopping malls around Delhi and the Taj? The last time I was in Delhi, which was a about a year ago, the taxi driver made the usually stops at the 'tourist' shopping malls which I have no interest in. I did however visit a mall in Gurgoen which had a large supermarket but the overall shop selection was ok. I'm looking more for a western type shopping mall that locals go to and carry major brands. Any help would be greatly apperciated.

The taj is located in South delhi.. you have multiple options along the lines u want

1. Shoppers Stop - Ansal Plaza.
2. Westside - Lajpat Nagar

I would recommend you take a peek at Khan Market as well.

Thanks for the quick response.

Just a couple quick questions for you. How far are both malls from the Taj and what hours are they open until between Monday - Wed?

um....which Taj? There's 3 (the palace, mahal, and the ambassador)?

So the Taj Mahal is fairly close to Khan Market - while the Taj Palace is closer to Ansal plaza. Consequently around mid morning - if you get onto the ring road and head across the river its about a 15 minute drive from the palace to the great india mall in Noida?

Taj Mahal and the Ambassador are pretty much on 2 sides of Khan market. Ambassador to Khan is a 5 minute stroll whereas its about a 10 minute walk from Taj Mahal. Journey time to either of the malls from here is 15-20 minutes , anytime during the day.

Shopping Malls near Taj palace

Here are the details of Shopping malls near your Hotel vis-a-vis distance from your hotel -

1) Closest is Shivaji Place District Centre (Rajouri Garden) - 5 kms from your hotel on the main Ring Road. There are 5 huge malls there - Westgate , City Square , TDI Mall , TDI Paragon and Shopper's Stop. All the malls are adjoining each other.

2) Ansal Plaza -(Khel gaon Marg) - 5 km from your hotel in another direction. This is Delhi's oldest mall which you may find a bit cramped.

3)Saket District centre - 7-8 kms from your hotel - 2 malls in the sprawling complex are newly open Square One( for ethnic designerwear)and Select Citywalk (Delhi's hippest)

4)Noida - The Great India Place - India's largest operational mall at 1.2 million sqft. Altho this is 25 Kms away but only 30 min drive thru Ringroad as the whole route is totally signal free. Also Centrestage mall across the road which used to be the largest six months back.

5)Gurgaon - Since you have already been there ,not detailed. However the "newest" largest mall at 1.5 million sq ft - Ambi mall has just opened with Debenhams, M&S ,Next and Mac.But the mall is still 50% occupied yet.

There are about 20 more but not convenient for you.

So take your pick. Most malls have similar clients but the newer ones are more spacious with larger stores. My advice - Select Citywalk (Saket) , Great India Place (Noida) and Westgate (Shivaji District Centre).

Enjoy your shopping
