A simple question : We are flying into Delhi early morning on June 27th and leaving by train the day after June 28th.
Would it be possible for us to stay the night at the Rail Yatri Niwas Hotel without any previous booking. Also we will have our train e-tickets to show them as we intend to buy them very soon through the internet. I hope my English was good enough to explain the matter and thank you very much for your help. Lorenza

If memory serves me well the Rail Yatri Niwas unlike the Retiring rooms accepts advance resevation, I'll check

Yep

Quote:
The facility of Rail Yatri Niwas is available to rail passengers on advance reservation could be done by sending full amount of the required accommodation by money order in the name of Chief Manager. Rail Yatri Niwas, at New Delhi Railway Station or demand draft in favor of FA & CAO/ Northern Railway. {(Checkout / Check in time: 9 AM) Phone Number 011- 23233484, 23233561 }
The payment method might be a problem though!

To be honest there's no real need to stay here there's a clutch of over 200 hotels just down the road from the station. So you could try the Yatri Niwas if it doesn't work out there's always pharganj where I'm sure you can get a hotel!!
Booking ahead at these places IS an option

You should have no problem. We stayed at Yatri Niwas just a month ago. Rooms are ok, dormitory portions less so. As CH suggests, there are plenty of hotels in the area too. For a 1-day transit stop, it really doesn't matter.

There is likely to be more street life around the hotels, but I don't know if you'd consider that to be a turn on, or turn off.

They accepted cash from us. One detail: you have to put down a little deposit and get it back when checking out.

My concerns about payment were aimed at the option to book in advance. The lodging offers this but there's a limited payment gateway! I.E. money order, a limited option for overseas visitors!

Oh and happy birthday Akt!!

I understand. It is a pretty dull place too, I must say.

Many thanks! It was a happy one. We got to attend an Austrian wine tasting event, followed by an Indian dinner!

Delhi's Rail Yatri Niwas has been converted into Hotel Ginger.
