Delhi Pub?
I'm supposed to meet some travelers for a beer when we arrive in Delhi. Any suggestions for a cool pub-like place? Is there anything around Connaught Place?

Hit the Imperial hotel(1911 bar or Patiala Peg)on Janpath if cost is not an option - quite and comfy. Otherwise there a few listed in the following thread:

my vote also Imperial, youll get well looked after and the place is great fro a walk around and is like a museum trip the food is also top notch. You will pay a little more but the surroundings and the service and quality is well worth the few extra rupees and there will be no hassels

Hmmmmm I should definately check out the Imperial then. I'm pretty sure me and my mates will go bar hopping in Delhi and eventually end up there, or start our night there with dinner.

Volga in CP
A interesting option, if your into 'divey' bars with a bit of history is Volga, in the inner-circle of CP. Can't remember which block but, if I'm not mistaken (probably am) it's near the India Times building.
Compared to Q'BA and other flash joints, it's funky, old and kitschy. I went with my girlfriend, a month back. The waitstaff is cool, our waiter said it was the oldest restaurant in Delhi? Perhaps he meant CP? In any case, the decor looks like it. A beer costs 75 Rs., and this for a large bottle--unlike Q'BA, where they charge around 175 Rs. for a smallish one. As far as drinking holes in Delhi go, (not counting happy hours) this is as cheap as it gets. For all ya Berkeley indy-rock types this is a good option. It doesn't have a nice jukebox like the Mallard, but if you like old Filmi songs played on equally old sound systems... Tak |
