Well it came operational since the beginning of july this year . Last time in 2003 when I was in Delhi they were still constructing. I really still can't imagine how it would be to travel trough Delhi on high speed .

chapati, the delhi metro commenced operations in dec 2002! in july this year it reached connaught place and the new delhi railway station and old delhi, i think. Its an ongoing project and its still going to be about 10 yrs before the metro spawns the whole of delhi..here's the website http://www.delhimetrorail.com/commuters/index.html
The website isnt great...but the metro is world class

I spent 4 months in India, about half of that with LP and the other half with Footprint (a friend visited with it and lost the battle to keep it!)
Found Footprint had wider range of info and had better detail on temples, forts and palaces etc. etc.
Also some of the hotel/guest house recommendations were more accurate in Footprint and places not listed in LP were often cleaner, better priced and with a wider choice of rooms.
However there were some (minor) inconsistencies in maps. Made for the odd interseting detour! Either would do, but I'd choose Footprint for India. And as you've already got an old LP you could always chop out key pages and tuck them inside whatever updated book you pick...

A new one out next week (on on October 8th I think)
Think the 'old' one was a 2004 edition.

ah really? Must be a line in far west New-Delhi that operated since dec.2002?
Never noticed a metro while being there, but I didn't pay attention anyway because I thought there wasn't one .

Give them a call, they might just have a copy of the new edition in stock that they can send you before the official release date. They have been known to do that.

They're at www.footprintbooks.com, or

What, the Delhi Metro does not cover South Delhi?

What use is it, then?

According to amazon.com, the new edition is out on 10th October - just too late for me so I'll be using the "old" August 2004 edition. I would definitely add a vote for the footprint guide. I also like the eyewitness guide, it's great for info about places to visit and has tons of pictures but it's not so strong on accommodation. Also it weighs about 100 pounds. Last trip we took footprint and eyewitness guides and it was great to have both, but the eyewitness usually ended up staying at the hotel when we were out for the day.
