Delhi: Metro Stations within easy reach of tourist sites?
I will be in Delhi on Jan 08. I would like to know if there are any 'tourist sites' within easy reach of the metro stations,i.e. either walking distance or onwards by auto?
Thanks

Off the top of my head, the Metro does go to Old Delhi where many tourist sites. You could use cycle rickshaw to get around. Also Pragati Maidan is not far from Nizamuddin - take auto to Humayun's Tomb etc. Secretariat not far from India Gate, Museum and I think Railway Museum. Delhi IM'ers can be more specific for you! I think the Metro is brilliant btw.

At this moment the metro doesn't cover many tourist sites.
From Chandni Chowk station one can walk to Jama masjid and red fort. From Kashmere gate station one can go to Majnu ka tila. From Central Secratariat one can go to India gate, Rashtrapati Bhawan and National Museum. |

I made the walk from the Chandi Chowk station east to the Jama Masjid just a few weeks ago: may be the best way to approach the Red Fort. Not to be missed. (Readers of 'City of Djinns' w/b esp. appreciative.)
And the metro overall: terrific ! While it may not have stops immediately adjacent to the principal sites, it's often within a quick 'auto' ride or a good walk (e.g.--as per previous Reply--Central Secretariat to Nat'l Museum). |

I think the Vishavidyalaya line goes very near to Kamla nagar, an interesting market, young crowd & lots of yummy snack joints.
