yes - it will eventually run to the airport but I don't think that is due for completion until 2010? (one of the other Delhi regulars will probably know better than I).
Having said that - the construction is going incredibly well. The latest stretch to be opened (just last week) was completed 7 months ahead of schedule. It really is a great service.

Rode in March this year. University to CP, stopped at Chandni chowk. Excellent ride away from all the noise of Delhi roads.
It will indeed be great to ride on it from IGI airport after 2010. |

The only thing they have to learn is that you first let people out of the train before you are entering.
For me this is always funny but i dont think many visitors for the 2010 games will enjoy that ![]() |

I used Delhi metro several times in December of last year. Good stuff. A few things I noticed:
- metal detectors and guys checking bags at the stations I went through - for a single journey, you queue up in a (usually) long line and purchase a token at the window; you tell the worker which station you are going to. no automated machines (boo). not very efficient. - if I recall correctly, photography in stations and on trains is no go - there are stations close to CP (Rajiv Chowk), Jama Masjid in Old Delhi, Paharganj. unfortunately, if you are staying in South Delhi as I did you'll need to catch an auto rickshaw into Central Delhi as the metro does not reach there yet. |

Well there was an especially beautiful girl at our metro station - the one at the bottom of Paharganj - something or other Ashram - you have to be a woman to go through the women's line though... so dream on boys! See what you're missing by not going to Pahargank Shashank....

Awesome Metro
I visit Delhi 2-3 times a year and was amazed just how much the Metro has expanded during my last visit to Delhi last month. I am sure a lot of tourists complain about the line-ups, the lack of etiquette of letting people off the train first before getting on. But remember, this is India. In a post of mine in another forum, I advised people travelling to Delhi (or any part of India) to travel with a different frame of mine. The moment you say that "this is not how things work back home" or "back home we are much more efficient", you are going to make yourself miserable. Just go with the flow and be a little more tolerant.
Personally, besides the little flaws in the metro, I found the metro to be EXTREMLEY effecient and well thought out. For a place like Delhi and with it's population, this totally works! When I say to my friends that this is a better system than the TTC (in Toronto), they are shocked. I hear the link to the airport will be ready by the Fall or the end of the year 2008. The cool thing is that you can check in your baggage at CP (some airlines only) and take the express train right to the airport. How convenient.
