road conditions manali-leh or srinagar-kargil-leh ?

hi,

i need urgent information towards the road conditions know up to the middle of novemver for the roads up to leh .

are the roads still open ? for busses ? private jeeps ? trucks ?
what happened to the landslide at the Rohtang Pass from the beginning of August ?
Where are my chances better, from delhi up to manali, or up to srinagar in order to find any chance of transport ?

the alternative: to fly in, who has current information or where can i find them on the internet ?
better to book a flight from germany or possible to find in delhi ?
where in delhi ? who can recommend a reliable agency ?

Visiting Leh, by road, in November is not advisable. You can rather choose some track in trans himalayan regions and for highland tracking what I can suggest. Roam around in lower himalayan regions by road like Manali, Kangra Vally etc.

Flying to Leh is a better idea. Light commercial flights "Meghdoot" operate from delhi to leh.

The Manali - Leh road is officially closed on 15th Oct. It means it is no more maintained though it is possible to drive if there has not been much snowing yet. But it is risky option since anytime you can get stuck. You can check recent situation by mail: dragontours@hotmail.com . They run jeeps from Manali to Leh so they should know.

To get to Srinagar, there are direct buses from Delhi (24 hours journey) or combination Jammu Mail&shared jeep.

The best way to Leh at this time of a year is to fly. More recommended than Indian Airlines is Jet Airways . Both have online booking.

There are also flights to Leh from Chandigarh, Jammu and Srinagar.

You can book flights in Germany but when you get in Delhi, check your booking since in my case there were always problems when I booked Delhi - Leh flight from home.
Also you can book in Delhi. Jet has office in Connaught, outer side of inner circle, between Nirula and Janpath if I remember correctly.
