delhi in 2 weeks

hi all, i will arive in delhi on the 1st march for my 3rd visit to the area. although i intend to travel more or less straight to nepal, i'm interested if anybody has any suggestions for cheap budget accommodation for our first night, and also things to do (cool places to hang out, get a beer, meet other tourists) in paharganj, because the previous times i've been there it seemed pretty dull like nothing really happens there. i know there are bars and stuff in connaught place but it's a bit upmarket for me there, i want somewhere cheap and backpacky!

any suggestions welcome please!!

also, any ideas how much it costs to get from delhi to kathmandu by train and/or bus? and i've forgotten how much i should pay for a taxi from the airport to paharganj, i dont like getting ripped off!!

any other travellers taking the same route around the same time?!

On our last visit we got a prepaid taxi after an internal flight , It cost 160 rupees to connaught place, I thought that was really cheap. We will be doing this again when we fly out in April.

We stayed at Sunny guest house and at Ringo's. It is basic backpacker accommodation. We had a double room with bathroom for 350 rupees. We will be staying here again because it's very quiet at night.

thanks for the response. i think instead of staying at a guest house we will be staying with a local from couchsurfing.com if you're not already familiar with this website i would really recommend taking a look, people all over the world offering a free place to stay or information about their city etc... i've used it before in europe and had a way better time in people's houses than in hotels! thanks anyhoo for your reply, i will use ringo's as my back up i think!
