Have you been to Torino
Someone recommended Torino [Bar & Restaurant] to me for Italian. Upscale and casual. Just off the MG Road - closer to Gurgaon.
Has anyone been there? if yes, how did you find it? Last edited by machadinha : Jan 14th, 2008 at 00:50. Reason: merged threads |

Delhi: Favorite restaurant?
Which is your Favorite restaurant - irrespective of the Cuisine in Delhi & suburbs?
It may be upscale but it should not be in a 5 star hotel. I am looking for some place casual for nice dinner. Thanks for your recommendations... Last edited by machadinha : Jan 14th, 2008 at 00:47. Reason: adjusted title |

I can thoroughly recommend the Mediterranean restaurant on Lodhi Road, lovely food and nice relaxed atmosphere, best to book though.

It's Tonino not Torino..is slightly ahead of Andheria More - if you are coming from Qutab Minar towards Gurgaon, Andheria More is where you turn right to Vasant Kunj...is closer to Delhi than Gurgaon actually. Good ambience and attracts the page 3 crowd but for the price it charges, I am not so sure it is that great. A bit contradictory but I am a regular at their Vera Pizza outlet in Gurgaon though..lack of Italian choice in Gurgaon perhaps.
My favourite restaurant is Karim's near Jama Masjid. If you want upscale but not 5 star, it would be the chinese in Nanking in Vasant Kunj for me (you did ask "irrespective of cuisine"). |

I am absolutely addicted to the food in the restaurant of the IIC (India International Centre)Unfortunately only members and their guest can eat there, so I am quite dependent on the goodwill of my member friend.... He has been very good lately..

You fight your way through the crowded streets teeming with rickshaws, people, goats, chicken and what not and walk in through the narrow corridor with the non descript signboard "Gali Kababiyan"....and are immediately assaulted by the scent of assorted spices, oil and tandoor. You enter the main courtyard (so to say) and are greeted by the sight of...that old man with the flowing beard sitting cross legged on an elevated platform gently stirring that big pot of curry almost as if he is caressing a woman, those mutton and chicken pieces dangling languorously almost in a titillating fashion from iron rods like a pole dancer with a come hither look, that awesome food smell which has the "Axe" effect... You enter the dining area and are immediately struck by the sight of a multitude of diners assaulting their food with a crazed, frenzied look in their lustful eyes....wrestle your way to a table and the orgy begins... You indulge in some foreplay.....make a pass at the inviting shammi kababs, nibble naughtily at the flirtatious sheekh kababs and make an improper advance at the mutton burras and raan with animal passion....all these aided and abetted by the generous side helpings of onions dipped in fiery green chutney. Your desire is whetted and you progress to the main...the tandoori (khamiri) roti distracts and you bite into it hungrily oblivious of the larger attractions to follow. But this is just raw passion and a teaser trailer and needs to be supplemented/decorated by the bigger attractions : you mischievously explore the innards of the murgh mussallam (chicken stuffed with rice and eggs served in curry), stare rapturously at the mutton stew/korma, chicken jahangiri, nargisi kofta et al and slurp on, gnaw (at the bones you mischievous fellow ! Now what were you thinking ?!) and drive into them..... Post the act....ho hum ! well you can have the phirni if you are not already a spent force (but frankly, the guy selling the phirni from a cart just around the corner from Karim's is far better). I would reccomend Mainland China & Chinese for Chinese food, the former is at Masjid Moth & the later at CP.
