Delhi: Evening Entertainment?

Hey all.

Staying at Oberoi Maidens for several nights while in New Delhi. Wondering if any of you have recommendations for cultural activities at night. Specifically, we would be interested in Dance Exhibitions, Music (Especially Tabla), Drama. Not so interested in clubs, drinking, etc.

Thanks.

try this..

Once you do get to delhi , ask the concierge for a copy of "Whats Hot" , a friday supplement with the Times of India. Even a week old copy will do.

Most of the events taking place will be listed here..theatre, music, food festivals etc.

The Indian Habitat Center always has something on as well. Go through their site and see if you can find something http://www.indiahabitat.org/main.htm

Time Out has by far the best listings (it's an offshoot of the original London magazine). The Habitat Centre and India International Centre near Lodi Garden have the most regular dance and music performances.

Last night I went to a very good dance programme - it's called 'Dances of India' and is held nightly in the Parsi Anjuman Hall, next to Maulana Azad Medical College. It starts at 7 p.m. and lasts for around an hour, and is well worth watching. Dances featured were: Gujarati Gaggar, Kathakali (Kerala), Manipur - stick balancing and drum dance (stunning!) Odissi from Orissa, Kathak, and Punjabi Bangra.
It costs 250 rupees if you want to sit on the front row comfy couches or 200 rupees for the seating (perfectly comfortable) from the 4th row back. We sat on the 200r. seats and were quite able to see well and were comfortable!
