Delhi - domestic airport to railway station

I arrive in Delhi domestic airport on a Friday evening at 18:40.

There is a train I wish to catch to Jodhpur which leaves Delhi (DLI) at 20:50, and Delhi Cantonment (DEC) at 21:15.

What are my chances of making it??

Which of the 2 stations is closest to the Domestic Airport?

Phew your going to be sweating it a bit!! That's cutting things pretty fine.
I'm not sure if the traffic has died down in Delhi at that time but getting to the train station from the airport takes about 25 minutes (to New Delhi station) in minimal traffic and I fancy getting to Old Delhi station poses more problems.
In heavy traffic this could take an hour easily!!
getting through immigration can take an hour though sometimes you're out in half an hour!!
So if you haven't already booked I'd say hang fire for a night and catch the train the following mornng!!
Maybe our Delhi members can tell you if I'm getting this wrong!!

Happy Traveling

Delhi Cant station is only about 10 kms from the airport, though I have no idea what the trafic situation would be like in the area.

The train departs at 21:17, this gives you a whole 2 minutes extra.

It will be good fun trying to explain to a taxi/auto driver that you want Delhi Cant station, he may say "no problem" and take you to New Delhi station.

sometimes I wonder if people actually read the original question. Since when did domestic have immigration? lol.

10kms in 2.5 hours. Worse comes to worse I should be able to walk it. haha.

Whoops!!

Sorry Razz I'm guilty of skimming again. Should everything arrive on time then you should have plenty time to make the train station!!
Are you booked on this train???

not yet. But, I might go to the bookshop tonight to check a map first, and make sure I know exactly where I have to go.

I'm booking for December 10th, so they have only just become available. The thing is I have only 5 free days before I have to be back at Delhi to meet my wife off her international flight, so I'd rather spend 5 whole days in Jodhpur/Jaisalmer than 4.5.

Worse comes to worse, if I miss it, get a refund and it only costs me 10Rs anyway (30 for AC)

Anyway, I skimmed your answer as well. It was only after I read it the second time that I picked up on it.

thanks.

If you cancel a ticket less than 4 hours before the departure time, you lose 50% of the fare paid.

Anyway, I had a look at the Delhi map last night and it looks like it is more like 6kms from the Airport so no worries.

Well I thought I might as post my experience in case some actually uses the search function.

We eventually touched down at the airport 18:50 and my bags took an age to get through, but finally got through and bought my prepaid taxi ticket at 7:15. After battling with the "trolley" guys (a simple 'i don't care, I'm not paying you' helps) finally got in a taxi and to Delhi Cantt Railway station at 7:45, so not only did I get there in less than 1 hour from touchdown but also with 1.5 hours to spare.

A lot less stress I reckon than going into the main Delhi stations (whichever one it originated from). The only problems were that it does only stop for 2 minutes and my carriage was at the other end of the platform than where I was and had to run to get on as the train had started moving, and also that all the luggage space was taken up by the time I got there (which just meant I had to stubbornly make my point to some people to get them to move theirs). Anyway I had quite a bit of luggage myself but thats beside the point, I must be entitled to more space than, er, none. Anyway it was all friendly again after the dust had settled. haha.

and also answer to another question that I made a few weeks ago about left luggage at Cantt and the answer is no, there is not.

Anyway now in Jaisalmer and loving it.

Great idea the update.

I'm surprised there is no left luggage.

Enjoy Jaisalmer and try a 'special' thali at Kanishka restaurant.

Domestic Airport to New Delhi Railway Station

I am in the same boat. My flight arrives at 18:40 and I have a train to catch from New Delhi Railway Station at 20:45. I will carry only cabin luggage (no waiting for baggage). Given that it was easy enough to reach Delhi Cantonment Station, how much farther is it to New Delhi Station?

Your flight arrived at 6:40 PM and at Delhi airport its usual for flights to get delayed !! I would say 7 pm atleast...

getting a cab..peak hours...I would say that you are in a tight spot.but manageable..Delhi Canty.. is almost next to Domestic Airport...but NDLS is a bit far and is in very congested area..

You should make it to the station around 8 PM.
