Delhi domestic airport to delhi railway station(Delhi station) at the earliest

Hi All,

How long will it take from Delhi domestic airport to Delhi railway station.
My parents will be landing delhi airport at 8 pm and thy have to catch the kalka mail 2311 from delhi station at 9:40 or Sabzi mandi at 9:55.

Pls tell me the shortest way to reach the railway station. also can thy take metro to reach faster?

Which terminal?

If T3 - once the metro starts up, it should be feasible.

otherwise, a quick pickup of luggage and an extra 50 tip to the driver should settle it (but then luck can be so fickle!)

The fog is starting so flight timings are guaranteed to go out of whack. I'd rebook the flight or the train either way

its terminal 1D. actually we are catching the train to go to kalka and thts the last train.
Is the metro service started? i couldnot see the station in delhi metro website.

the train goes to Subzi mandi station n leaves at 9:55 is it nearer thn old delhi station?

The metro services of the airport line haven't kicked off as yet.

What day is your train on? Around 2100 Hrs traffic shouldn't be much of a problem even if its a weekday. And in my opinion the Old Delhi Railway Station would be closer than the Sabzi Mandi one, but you should confirm this with some taxi service before deciding.

I'd suggest you call a cab service before hand and get them to send a taxi for you at the airport, so you won't have to look for one this way and can immediately leave for the Railway Station. Even if they charge a bit more, at least your transportation to the Railway Station is ready and waiting for you.

If they have less luggage, they can bring it as cabin luggage & request the airline - most people will relent.

There's no real issue in pre-booking a cab. There's an abundance of cabs (unless its a festival day) and you can walk out and get one. Otherwise, you will have incessant coordination with the cab guy - where are you, we are here, etc etc.

Maximum - just ask your mom to queue & take the receipt for the taxi while your dad collects the luggage.

EDIT: Arre, what a headache for Kalka. Just take any bloody bus service. There's Indo Canadian as well as the Haryana Roadways (Chandigarh-Airport-Gurgaon bus) - speak to them.

EDIT2: In this season, all trains of such LONG duration are guaranteed to be 1-2 hours if not more, late See this: http://www.trainenquiry.com/RunningI...22%2f11%2f2010 - already delayed by 1 hour in bihar itself. by delhi, another 1-2 hours delay!

Got some hope now..They will be travelling on 2nd Dec night.Abt the delay, even the flight might arrive at delhi delayed na.
We want to catch this train cos it reaches kalka at 4:40 and we will take Shivalik express at 5 :30 to shimla.
Even if we miss the train we should be getting a bus to chandigarh or Kalka to catch shivalik express right ?

Flight late? Actually not. Which airline is it again? Both spicejet and indigo (esp) are fanatical about on time performance. And in the evenings, the fog is not as much there as it is early morning 7am.

Worst case, you catch one of the bus services above, or one from redbus.in - the journey to kalka is not more than 5-6 hours on most days. In my opinion, play it by the ear. Just get to the bus station - find the best volvo etc you get at that time. Get to chandigarh (all buses heading to himachal will pass through chd) in the worst case & catch a cab to kalka.

Not worth prebooking and losing sleep over.

EDIT: Worst case scenario is here:

PPS: Else if its abominably late, catch a outstation taxi from near the airport itself.

PPPS: There are volvos leaving from gurgaon direct to chandigarh even shortly after midnight, so clearly if you land up at kashmere gate ISBT, you will get a fast bus to chandigarh (if not kalka) shortly before midnight.
