Delhi domestic airport terminals.

Bearing in mind the real possibility of my being delayed at Delhi airport (domestic 1a and 1d), over the Xmas period, what with the fog etc, can someone offer advise on whiling away an hour or two. I'm specifically thinking of bars and restaurants. I have read online that a new 24 hr bar is to be completed by November this year, and I wonder is it accessible to domestic passengers?

Delhi domestic airport is quite good nowadays (if it doesn't rain), on the ground floor in the departures hall, past security there's some shops, you can get a coffee, a snack...on the first floor there's a food court with a number of restaurants. Haven't seen anything about a 24-h bar last time I was there (2 weeks ago) though. But I'm taking a flight to Chennai sunday, will keep you posted.

Anyways, I guess you'll be able to find something to eat or drink at any time of day or night.

The McDonald's aint there in the new terminal...it was in the old one...

However, the new domestic terminal has quite a bit of variety in terms of eating joints - pizza, n.indian, dosas, chinese, sandwiches, coffee, et al...

Yes, they are opening a 24hr Multi Cuisine restaurant & Bar at 1C i.e. Arrival terminal. And it is accessible to even Visitors.
The Restaurant will be operational by 15th of October & Bar will be in October End.

We're travelling with Air India, out of terminal 1a on Xmas eve, for Mumbai. After checkin and security, can you still access the arrivals lounge, or are you stuck in 1a? I'm not a great lover of airports, and a bite to eat, a beer and a newspaper are a great comfort when waiting to be called.

'Devotees of Bacchus can relax in the company of a fine selection of wines and spirits in well stocked bars at all 3 departure terminals. The fine dining restaurants in the departure terminals are a busy place and one can often find laptop warriors catching up with their email while indulging into succulent chicken tikka along with some chilled beer.' I've just found this article on the Delhi airport website, and this pretty much answers my questions. Thanks to the good people who took the time to reply.

I have heard so much about the new terminals at Delhi airport. I know they have spent massive amounts of money and I just hope they have been able to come up with an airport worthy of a city hosting the Commonwealth Games next year.

Can't wait to get to Delhi (hopefully in Jan) and find out.

Spot on! The airport building can rival with anything in Europe (and you get free wifi, most EC-airports charge 1200 Rs for that). One minor flaw is the roof (leaks) but who cares, outside the monson it doesn't rain much.

Getting the city in shape will be another thing I fear. And building the sites and infrastructure is one thing, changing the attitude of many delhiites who think they're the landlord is another. Sheila Dikshit wants to start an education campaign....hope it turns out better than her 'clean Yamuna' drive
