| Delhi Cows? hi folks, i know that the delhi government is trying to round up as many cows as possible before the common wealth games: http://www.iht.com/articles/2008/10/21/asia/delhi.php can anyone give me an idea (difficult i know) of just how well this undertaking is going? does one still find cows walking around in traffic? |

| I've not seen a cow in central Delhi at all this trip. There are plenty out in the suburbs. There's a veritable street gang of them near my place on the far side of the river, munching on leftovers.

| Maha Guru Member | There were plenty in the Delhi's main bazaar area when I was there a few months ago. The diet seemed to be cardboard boxes supplemented by the odd vegetable, ![]()

| there are enough cows all around , maybe with the exception of the India gate area but there also every one in a while you see a couple... Not sure about how big a task it is , the other big issues is whether it will actually be done.. |

| The Supreme Court of Delhi ( ) said 'no cows on the road'.Unfortunately, those cows are outside their jurisdiction

| Disappointing, I'd love to see a cow in the dock!

| It's good to know they are rounded up and taken care of. Who pays for their care? The owners?

| So, do the owners still get to keep the cows? Do they have access to them at certain times? |

| No way, they will probably refuse to acknowledge it as their animal if they were asked. Most cows that you see on the roads are ones who are no longer milking and old. They are a burden on the owner as he has to still feed it and look after it though he is not getting anything in return. So it is easy to drive the cow out and let it take care of itself, or let someone else do it for them. The owner would be fined if it is established that he had turned out the cow on the street. There is no love lost for the cows once they are not providing milk. |
