Suggest you guys do not exchange phone numbers (or other such personal detail) here.

Just imagine everybody in the whole world that you never wanted to know, having your phone number.

That's the internet.

Hi to all..nowadays u can buy Cannon S5IS,its in the market...But I would suggest Sony H7 rather than Cannon S5IS..Sony H7 is better camera than Cannon S5IS or S3IS...Sony H7 is with 15X optical zoom,Carl Zeiss lens,BIONZ processor, double anti blur technology...Only die hard Cannon fans go for the Cannon camera...for point and shoot Sony H7 is relatively better camera than Cannon S5IS....(see the reviews in net)

Sorry, i beg to differ on this........H7 has been a highly dissappointing camera atleast when u comapre with segment frontrunners like s5Is and Panasonic FZ50..........and the supposedly the best authority for the reviews of digicam on net (dpreview.com) says so too..........i would suggest s5Is any day over H7 and if you know ur optics well then fz50 any day over all of them simple cuz of best IS, leica lens, Raw mode and less cost....

As per dpreview Canon S5 has an edge over H7..But S5 is also not highly rated.Sony H5(12X zoom) is rated high over Canon S5IS .Another Camera is Sony H3 with 10x zoom.

Just for everyone's benefit here are quotes from dpreview:
On the S5 :
"To conclude, the PowerShot S5 IS is probably, just, the pick of the super zoom bunch at this moment in time, because it offers reliable output, responsive performance and an impressive feature set in an attractive, easy to use package that makes photography fun; not because it offers better IQ."

On the H7:
"But if you've got more exacting image quality standards, want to enlarge more or want to actually use all those advanced features I suspect that, like us, you're going to find the H7 disappointing. At least the H9 has a great screen to take your mind off the fiddly controls and less-than-stellar results; the H7 is what it is - a budget model that, unfortunately, performs like one."

On the H5:
"The choice when looking at this class of camera is a difficult one, and one that more often than not comes down to handling, personal preference (in terms of the actual output) and how important certain specific features (in this case the screen, basically) are to you. The H2 represents far better value for money than the H5, which is why I still consider it to be the pick of the bunch, but the H5 still offers an awful lot of 'bang for your buck'. Whilst it would be unfair to penalise the H5 simply because it doesn't offer a lot more than the H2 in terms of real benefits, I would point out that whereas the $399 H2 was an easy choice for a Highly Recommended, the H5, like the Canon S3 IS, was a much closer call."

A friend of mine was looking at Sony H9 today at www.jjmehta.com. I liked the flower shape lens hood though you need to buy the lens extra.

I personally do not believe in buying electronic items from grey market. End of story.

its little misleading the comapre across the series.......comparison should also take care of time/ yr at which camera was released cuz of a lot changes done in sensor, processing system etc etc.........

H9 needs to be compared with S5IS and h5 with s3is one.......h5 was ofcourse better than s3is but not so in the latest model of both the companies........its s5is which is better than sony's h9....

though i still maintain panasonic FZ50 is any day much better than all these models.........the only prob with this cam is high noise levels at iso 400 and above....otherwise a magnificent piece of cam.......

How good the S5IS is in low or dim light??I read in internet, it performs bad in dim or low night...Those who have this camera , please share the information...I am also interested in Sony H3 just released, it has 10X optical zoom with 8MP.The important point is H3 is far smaller than H7 and Canon S5IS. You can keep the camera inside ur jacket. Not possible with the others...

These are the lines(for Canon S5IS) from the above link ....
The Bottom Line
This is a great-looking EVF that is solidly built, fun to use, and has unique stereo recording for video capture. Dedicated buttons for image quality adjustments are a great touch, as is the articulated LCD screen. Optical Image stabilization allows for sharp shots even when the lighting isn't perfect, and overall the ergonomics and design of this camera are top-shelf. Unfortunately, image quality at ISO 400 and up isn't up to snuff, and it is a shame that such a well-designed camera from a major player suffers where it matters most.

can somebody tell me(It might be off topic), as I am new to the digital camera ..What actually ISO means? secondly when is the need to capture pictures with more ISO values(such as 800,1600), why picture quality goes down with higer ISO's? If the picture quality goes down with higher ISO, than whats its need.

ISO is the international standard used to denote film speed. It has been carried over to digital imaging and all manufacturers now provide the ISO equivalent for the sensors they employ in their camera.
It works on the principle that doubling the sensitivity of the film or sensor results in a doubling of the number. A 200 ISO sensor is twice as sensitive as an ISO 100 sensor.
The ISO rating in a digicam limits the exposure range of the camera because it acts as the base from which all exposure combinations are made.
The smaller the ISO number, the slower the sensor. This means that an ISO 100 sensor requires either a slower shutter speed or a wider aperture than the ISO 200 sensor.
This can be compared to “pushing” of conventional film.
When film is pushed, it often causes grain to be clearly visible. With pushing image sensors, pixelation or color shifts may increase and become visible as noise in an image.
Although with manufacturing processes getting more advanced all the time, quality will improve and before long we may have sensors with higher sensitivity with less or no visible loss in quality.

High ISO is needed to capture the shot when there is low light.....so generally people use it in night time with the right combination of shutter and aperture to get the desired shot.........but the prob with ISO in both point and shoot and prosume digicams (like S5Is) is that higher the ISO more is the noise cuz of sensor........only DLSR;s are able to give good results at 400 or more ISO.....most of the time you wud be shooting at iso 100 or 200........so i would suggest not to think so much abt iso w.r.t to other features of the cam.......sony might give a lil less noise as comapred to canon but cant match in other features.........another feature as i keep on mentioning is dont forget the RAW feature of fz50....read a lil more on it.......
