Why not go for the S5? I believe it is at Rs 21000 in th grey. Offers 8mp compared to 6 of S3. Unfortunately, no RAW format and the lens cap is as bad as S3.

Olympus Vs Canon

S3 is a nice camera, packed with features. also 12x zoom.

If your priority is zoom and nature pictures also have a look at olympus sp 550uz (http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/olympussp550uz/) 18x optical zoom !!

I do lots of nature photography and all my previous 3 digicams have been olympus. I love the way they render greens.

If you can get a very good old-model deal on an S3 --- go for it. But make sure the dealer knows you know that it is an old model!

Otherwise, I think the S5 has some design improvements. Not including, apparently, the lens cap.

Paid 20 grey for my S2 though it was the current model at the time. So that looks good.

1. take a good look at the specs of the S5 and a good look at your bank balance. Hopefully you are going to have this camera for some time. Make sure you are really happy that the great bargain is better than getting the latest model. This is a purchase you should enjoy for years to come. Be sure that you are not going to wish, in a few weeks time, that you'd spent the extra.

2. I'd advise buying grey as treat it as second hand. If something goes wrong, maybe that shop will fix it, maybe they won't. It is good if you know the shop has been around a few years already. My decision was a saving of 5,000 was worth that risk, and I know the shop had been around a while.

3. Make sure you get complete package: grey may not be sealed, but everything should be there. Check the packing list in the manual. Check there are no marks or signs of use on the camera. Don't worry that the lens cap falls off; they do!

4. Buy a couple of sets (4 in a set) of high-capacity rechargeable AAs, a charger and a 1-gig memory card (try to get some of that thrown in? Get a carrying case too. It doesn't have to be Canon, just a comfortable fit (I use one of those "men's hand bags" type things).

5. Enjoy

Good!

What do you get for 13K? One year warranty? My feeling with electronics is that if they are going to fail they do it soon! But I'd hate to take the responsibility of advising you on this one!

get the extra set of batteries (the battery-low indicator is a bit dim: it means you have one more shot left)

I keep a 1Gb card in the camera, and get 394 snaps at the large, fine quality setting. So even half that should keep you going all day

The video facility is pretty good --- but that really fills the card up. If you get attached to it, you're going to scurrying back to the shop for more cards!
