Hey!
I'd say check the 'hotel listing' part of this website - the Rough Guide & Lonely Planet are also helpful. I will be in Delhi for the first time in February 2007, but many of the places I've tried booking with are already booked! I would say book asap for Delhi and get your hotel to arrange an airport pickup for you. A lot less hassle. What is your price range? |

Hi Scotlandfirst
I can recommend a hotel, which just succesfully looked after my mother & Father in law. (65-75) I've stayed at this budget hotel for over 14 years and have always felt safe and "in India" The area of town is The Paharganj which I find to be a intense introduction to India, as well as the backpackers, it doubles as a real live Indian market! Lively but interesting!! Prices would be about 700-750 rupees for their triple rooms in the corner! TV, Hot shower, DECENT mattress, and close to everything.......really! You can get this cheaper of course, as this is just ONE idea!! PM for details as I don't want to unfairly advertise a place that offers service, that other places also offer! |

Again, please give us an idea of a price for a "budget" hotel. Prices in Delhi keep going up. Just spent a week there but before I make any recommendations, I'd like to know how much you want to spend per night. Paharganj is cheap but quite intense for a first time visit. We have been to Delhi many times over the years and recently decided to try Karol Bagh which turned out to be excellent, particularly because of the nearby and excellent Metro stop which gets you into Connaught Pl. in a few air conditioned minutes.

What hotel would you recommend in Karol Bagh near the metro and the shopping street where they have the street market on Saturdays?
Thanks! |

We spent almost a week at Bajaj Indian Homestay www.bajajindianhomestay.com They have a website (which I am currently unable to get, don't know if it's my computer or them). High season (now) for a double is about $76 includes a very nice breakfast. Has 10 rooms.
We found another place that looks really good called Florence Inn. Same general area as Bajaj Homestay but cheaper and bigger hotel (so should be easier to get a reservation). We will definitely try it next time we go to Delhi. http://www.hotelflorence.in/ We ate lunch at their lovely little restaurant and it is a nice oasis away from the hassles. Both places are about a 10 min. walk to the market and the metro (which is at the end of the market street). There are many small hotels which we passed by in Karol Bagh but we don't know anything about them. Hope this helps. |

the tibetan colony (majnu ka tilla) is reasonably priced (rooms w/hot water start at Rs 300) and the place is quiet; it's a nice refuge from the chaos of delhi. it is, however, a ways from the center of things.

Choose a hotel in Karol Bagh. You can commute to the city center (Rajiv Chowk Metro station in Connaught Place) from the nearest metro station. The shopping area, Ajmal Khan Road, is close by.
To pick a hotel that suits you, try: www.yatra.com www.cleartrip.com |

Hi Fly Again, Have you tried Sri Nanak yourself?
Sanjay Del - Why Karol Bagh over Paharganj? Is it less noisy and hectic? Thanks a bunch! ![]() |
