Delhi airport turnaround time

Tried to post this in India for beginners but it wouldn't let me?! I hope this is ok if not perhaps it can be moved.

Ok, basically I am arriving at Delhi airport (from London) on the 26th of November at 04:55am. I am on a little bit of a tight schedule (need to be in Goa by December 3rd) and there are a few things I want to do. But that's another thread! I would like to book a train out of Delhi to Agra that morning, get a room in Agra, see the Taj Mahal that afternoon then collapse in bed.

So, my question is, how much time should I allow to get out of the airport and over to the station? There are lot of trains so that's not a problem, I just can't be bothered to waste money having to buy another ticket because I didn't have time, but at the same time I would also like to minimise waiting around time. Obviously it'll either be a rush OR a case of hanging around lol, but perhaps someone here might be able to help me make it as smooth as possible.

Also, is my plan mad after an 8 hour plane journey, plus 2 1/2 hrs driving time to the airport in the first place, and the stress of saying bye to my boyfriend?! Should I just get a room in Delhi the first day?

Hmm.
I Guess you should keep around around 4 Hrs Gap between your arrival in Delhi Airport and catching the train to Agra. Let me try and give you a break up.

Around 1-1.5 Hrs in the airport for your immigration clearance + Baggage Claim + Get a Taxi for the Station.

Atound 45 Mins time to travel from the airport to station. I think at that time even 30 mins will be fine.

Another 30 mins for you to reach the railway station to search for the platform + board your train.

Adding a 1 Hr buffer for any delay in flight arrival + other issues.

So any train beyond 9:00 should be just fine.

Taking a room in Delhi would be a good idea. But then you will have to take 2 days in Delhi or 1 day somewhere else because the Taj Mahal will be closed on the 27th November which happens to be a Friday. If you want to know more about what to see in delhi then just reply back.
Welcome to India.

Regards
Prasanth

That's what was bothering me, the taj mahal being closed on fridays. I think I'll give it a go! I've got two and half weeks booked in Goa after this so I'm sure I'll manage to relax then

Thanks a lot for the help!!
