You don't need a flight ticket to get into the International Airport Premises to catch the metro. It's a fast and efficient way for travelling upto New Delhi Railway Station or new Delhi Metro Station.

Does anyone know if they're strict on thd amount of luggage you can take on the metro?
I saw on the wall the max is one 15kg bag. I have two bags, one of which is a 20kg suitcase. I'm pretty sure I'll have space at 7am on a Sunday in the ladies carriage.

But will they be strict going into the station? I plan to leave from RK Ashram Math.
Thanks

Yes ! There is a limit on baggage. But I haven't seen stricy enforcement, specially if it's personal baggage. So, I don't think you'll have problem.

Great! I'll actually be going from new Delhi station to avoid all the train changes I'd have on the other one. Presume metros start early on a Sunday too?

Hi All!!
I was at Meerut on 27th Feb. this year for a wedding. I had my flight from IGI T3 on 28th feb. at 15.30 Hrs. I took a local from Meerut and reached NDLS at 13.00 Hrs. I was told by many people that the Airport line metro would take around 18 minutes from Paharganj metro station to airport (T-3). So, I was relaxed. I came out of the station towards the Paharganj side and went into the metro station. I saw a board at a place indicating 'Airport Line' towards right side. However there was no place to go right. I enquired a security guard that how would I get to the Airport line and he showed me a thumb towards left. I went towards the left only to find that I came out of tthe metro station towards some other side. I again entered and enquired another Metro staff about the Airport line and he asked me to get into the line. The line however, had around 30-35 people already ahead of me. It took me about 20 minutes to get to the ticket window only to find that this counter is for regular route only. By the time it was around 2 PM already and I had started sweating. I enquired around 6 people including the security guards as well as metro staff but no one could let me know where the metro line actually was. I was about to press the panic button when i noticed a small counter where there were two guys sitting. I rushed to them and cried for help. There was a rope with a tag 'Do not cross'. They said something to the security guard there and he asked me to cross over the rope. I did so and then he showed me a way towards the metro line. I somehow got into the metro and was happy that i'll get to T-3 in a short while BUT it was not to be so. The person inside the metro was a nice guy. I asked him that whether there's scope for check in at the metro station at airport itself? His answer was the most shocking for me. He said that although it's said that the metro goes till the airport, but upon reaching the last stoppage, one needs to take either a Airport shuttle or a private cab to reach T-3
Although the Airport shuttle would take around 25 Mins to reach T-3, it leaves only when full. I sprinted out of the airport station only to find that the shuttle was only half full and would take around 20 more mins to leave. The time was 2.40 by then and I had lost all hope of catching my flight. However, there was a pre paid taxi counter near the shuttle stand. I rushed to it and got a pre paid cab for airport at Rs. 200. Fortunately, the cab driver was an experienced chap and he drove at 80 KPH+ and I reached IGI in around 12 Mins. Although the check in had closed down, I requested the lady on the counter and she took me to their manager who was kind enough to allot me a boarding pass.
The highlights of this story for me are:-
1) The security guards at Paharganj metro station, the metro staff, the lady who issued me a ticket for airport-All of them said that the metro shall drop me at Airport. Not a single one of them said that I need to travel another 10 Km's from there to reach T-3
I am only responsible for what I say, and not what you understand

There is something wrong here......

1. It's very easy to find Airport Metro entry gate at New Delhi, it's nicely signposted.

2. Airport Metro is not a local bus that leaves only after it has full passenger load, it leaves on designated time whether full or not. I recently travelled on it, and it ran on schedule even though there was hardly 10% occupancy.

3. Airport Metro leaves you right at the T-3. I don't understand what do you mean by additional travel of 10 KMs. Probably you mean terminal 1-D and not T-3.

If you mean 1D, then you should know that 1D is domestic terminal for low fare airlines and it's going to be out of operations very soon and all flights will soon operate from T-3 only. Delhi Airport Metro Express (DAME) runs to T-3 only.

The entry towards metro line was closed with ropes with signs of 'Do not cross'. It was only after a security guard came up and allowed me to jump over it to enter.

I talked about Airport Shuttle and not Airport metro. The guy who was guiding the passangers himself advised me to go for a pre paid cab as the shuttle was nearly empty and i was at a risk of missing my flight.

Mate, I atleast can differenciate between 1D and T-3. And I've told you what I've faced. And it's not that I was at IGI for the first time. It was just about the metro.

Dear, I think you missed T-3 stoppage and you disembarked at Dwarka sector 21 which is the last staion on this line. Probably that's why you had to take back a shuttle/cab to T-3.

This route map will make it clear to you.

What time does the T3 to NDLS metro operate until? I think I read it closes at 10 or 11pm but typically can't find that reference.

What's the best way of getting to NDLS after the metro closes? Is it easy to get a Meru cab from T3 - as the site suggests?

Thanks. I think we'll be too late for the Metro but we'll try Meru.

Though I had some differences with style_guru on previous occasions and I am now in Delhi for a while , I still second style_guru and not Delhiwala about style_guru's exp. Whatever information and maps DW is supplying is correct but again my cousin faced exactly same situation as style_guru did.And in that case, my brother did get into the plane in similar fashion and it was 20 min delayed, that actually saved him catching that flight.
I personally traveled from T3 to NDLS and vice versa and the situation of identifying the airport line in New Delhi metro station has improved, though one can still find " do not cross" tape anytime.

Pagalghora,

I am really perplexed !

If you get down at T-3 (IGIA) you do not need to take a shuttle or cab, as it leaves you in the premises.

Only situation when you have to take a bus/cab to T-3 is when you don't get down at IGIA station and travel further upto Dwarka. Was it the case ?

Delhiwala ,I understand your point.I personally did not face any problem whatsoever. But what I heard from my cousin and what style_guru described sounded similar!

Hmmmm....

I think they overshot their journey and instead of getting down at T-3 (IGIA) disembarked at Dwarka Sector 21.
