Delhi Accommodation
DELHI accommodation: Want to know whether the BUDGET hotels advertised on this site are as advertised. I don't want to pay a fortune just to stay overnight but at the same time I want the location/room to be decent (eg like motel type - clean and functional and not in a seedy area). Had alook online at other hotels but the rates seem to be of the order of at least $400 or more per night. Last edited by machadinha : Aug 6th, 2007 at 21:15. Reason: adjusted title; help we all need ;) |

There are budget hotels and there are 5-star deluxe(re:$400.00+).... and there are many accomodations in between. Let us know a price range of what you are willing to spend for a night so we can make some recommendations.

Prices in the big cities, of which Delhi is one, are much more expensive than in smaller towns, and the upkeep may not be as good. But it's very hard to recommend anyplace to you without a price range and some idea of where in Delhi you might want to sleep. Unfortunately, I have a feeling that you'd look around near most places and think: "seedy area." But ya know, that's kind of what most of India looks like, unless you're staying in one of those posh hotels. |

Any budget hotels (or motels, whatever) that goes as low as RS800 a night? A safe, decent place near the airport + railway station cause I'm thinking of going to Delhi, hang out a while then to Agra for Taj Mahal.

Ymca
I don't believe that internet advertisements for Delhi hotels are sufficiently informative. Better to use traveller recommendations on this site or traveladvisor etc.
My tip for a genuine budget hotel in a non-scary part of Delhi is the YMCA which is a pleasant enough sixties building with gardens and plenty of space. There are smaller YWCA places near but I have stayed only at YMCA. Over time I have stayed in Delhi hotels from 5 star to no star but the YMCA has been my favourite "budget" place. The area for low budget rooms is of course Paharganj about the only place which can offer R800/night or less. Pahar ganj is close to New Delhi station. Taxis from the airport are only R200-300.
