Dehli - International Schools

Hello all,
I am a British national who is currently in final negotiations for a new job in Delhi. This would mean relocating my family and settling my 3 children (aged 10,13 &14)into schools in Delhi. I have looked at the website of the British Int. School and hoped that someone on the forum could advise on the following:
1. What is the standard of education provided, are there any better alternatives?
2. Does the school run buses to nearby residential areas?
3. What are the nearest expat type residential areas for the school and approx. how far from the school are they?
4. My office is situated in Connaught PLace, what would be the best place to live in relation to school/office and recreation?
I appreciate if someone could assist me in this so that I can get a better feel for the city before I take the plunge.
Many thanks

Hi jax99

I'm here with my family (2 children, 13 and 16). Their favourite school is the American Embassy School. I think that this school is doing very well and the teachers are really motivated. For me one of the best schools I've ever seen (also outside India).
They run school buses from Vasant Vihar (some 15 min ride), which is a good place to live (quite, lots of shops, nice neighbourhood).
To CP it's a 30 min ride in the morning, in the evening it could take up to an hour (which is still good for Delhi).
Cheers, DilliChris

Jax, AES is a great school. Quick note: I'm sure your employer will cover school costs for the kids but check the percentage. For example my husband's company will pay 75% but many here will pay 100%. I only note this because AES is not exactly what one would describe as free. I don't have kids but understand that depending on what grade your kids are in tuition ranges from $10,000 to $20,000 and school buses are extra. So having your employer cover the full cost is a HUGE benefit.

I hear that the standard of these internation shools in India are as good if not higher than those in the UK. Indian students in these schools score the highest grades in the common exams

the american school is the preferred choice for expats without a doubt. the campus is great, the teachers are keen and there is loads of extracurricular stuff. vasant vihar is a popular place to live, but also check out panscheel (also popular with expat families and not far from VV).

There is a British school in New Delhi in Chanakya Puri area & what i last heard that they were doing a good job, apart form this there are several international schools as well. The next alternative could be top rung Indian (private) schools, excellent education, but can be very rigerous on academics.
Most of these schools have aircon busses plying to all prime areas of Delhi so kids travelling can be taken care of. Housing wise any area in South Delhi should be fine with you as your office commute should not take more than 30 max in peak hours. Delhi has 4,40 milo vehicles and a 14,5 milo people & home to some of most expensive real estate in the world, everything is available at price, Good Luck!

Thanks for the help. I will arrive in Delhi mid April and will check out schools/apartments. Family will follow once I have finalised things. I'm looking forward to experiencing Delhi.
