dec/jan travel to north india..places to see?
I am going back to India for the first time since I moved to California when I was 6 (now 23) so I want to see as much as I can. I am going to be in India for about 5 weeks but will only have a travel partner for about 3-4 weeks. I am flying into New Delhi and primarily staying in Ludhiana. My aunt is going to take me to Himachal Pradesh and show me Shimla and the surrounding areas and as for the rest of my traveling, I will be traveling with a friend.
My question is this: Where should I go? I want to travel to these places for sure: New Delhi Amritsar Agra Jaipur What are places I must see and what should I avoid? I arrive Dec. 15 and then will spend a few days in Himachal Pradesh and then I am free to travel, the only problem is I have to be back in Ludhiana for a wedding on Dec. 30. I leave around Jan. 21. I've been researching but there is just so much information out there!! Thank you in advance for any help. |

Trueluv77, Welcome.
Delhi, Agra, Jaipur are must sees for a first time traveler to India. However, hotel accomodations can be impossible to fond during the school's christmas. So, be prepared to pay rack rates during Dec 20 - early Jan if you can find accomodation. I would recommend spending time with family during that period. What will reslly help us help you is: 1. how many days are you plannign to travel? 2. Whats your budget? (e.g can you afford to rent a car, or are you planning to uses buses/trains) 3. will your travel partner be male or female? Other members can provide cautionary information of you are two females traveling alone. 4. Do you have any specific questions? Given that there is a lot of info o n the board, a number of your questions may be answered if you search the board. |

1. how many days are you plannign to travel?
well i will be there dec. 15 to around jan. 21, I will see Himachal Pradesh right when I arrive so for other traveling i have time from about dec. 21-dec. 28 and then again jan. 2-jan.10 (perhaps longer). i have to be in ludhiana between those dates for a wedding. 2. Whats your budget? (e.g can you afford to rent a car, or are you planning to uses buses/trains) I will be using mostly buses/trains. I have the budget to use a car but the people I am traveling with don't. 3. will your travel partner be male or female? Other members can provide cautionary information of you are two females traveling alone. first i am traveling with my aunt and then with a female friend but we will have a male with us at all times. 4. Do you have any specific questions? Given that there is a lot of info o n the board, a number of your questions may be answered if you search the board. i guess i'm just specifically wondering what places are worth seeing...I am unsure of how much time is needed to see certain places. I am still searching the boards as I am new to this website. Thanks! |
