Day trips around Delhi
about 3 hours by train from Delhi is Narnaul in Haryana which has quite a few Mughal and pre Mughal Muslim monuments .Plenty of trains go to Rewar near Narnaul , via Pataudi road.I would like to go there next time I am in the Delhi area.
I don't think you have seen all the old and interesting stuff greater Delhi has. The new metro make getting to some seldom visited places a tiny bit easier.
The Tomb of Sultan Ghari is one such place worth checking out.

Why stay at home when you can see the world?
If I had a few days to kill, the obvious choices are (long) daytrips to Agra, even Jaipur possibly. I know it sounds strange, but I would be curious about seeing how the other half lives in Guragon and check out the malls and other stuff down there. Another thing I might want to do is to go to a movie, a few parks, or something like that. Gwalior might also be a possible day trip, but it will be about 3 hrs each way on the train.
Deeg , Rajasthan , a bout 3 hours from Delhi, is must for my next Northern India trip whenever that is, I am still recovering from my recent 7 weeks in North India.
