Many friends of mine were very pleased with a little Muslim tailor shop located 3 minutes by foot behind Khan Market. There is a tailorshop inside Khan market (mentioned in a post above), but if you stand in front of this and then go to the back of the market there's something like a little village, and the shop if in a basement. Just ask for the taylor. His name is Tanzeb. A few diplomats had their clothes done there as well, if that is a recommendation. But he's supposed to be cheap, my friends preferred him over the Khan market tailor.. Myself, I'm not much into clothes, but he did sew in some pants I had bought too big in a shop, so I could fit it. Anyway that was in 2004, he was an old guy so maybe his sons, who were also working there, have taken over.
However you should always allow some extra time for the tailors to be able to fit it a second time. So it's best if you are not in rush. But this applies to any tailors I'd guess. Also beware of communication problems. A friend of mine probably had 40 shirts tailormade in the 6 months he stayed in Delhi, and he wanted them to fit just exactly to his pants (so there is not 20 cm extra inside the pants, etc).. Well, at one time he ended up getting 5 or 10 shirts which only reached just above his navel. And suffice it to say the shirts would perhaps be more appropriate for a gay party, and a little too sexy to wear with a suit and tie when he was in his embassy. :-) Best wishes Lars |

If you are fussy about your buttons/lining fabrics , then consider supplying your own. I think he charges about Rs 500 for a pair of trousers or shirt. Do you need any further information?? Let me know. |

I had a suit like that made with Zari. Made me want to dance and twitch. Maybe, we should switch. Can you wear a size 38.? |

Complaint? Depends what you're looking for. If you're that dude who wants the Kama Sutra yoga, a pair of Raymond's pants from Karol Bagh might be a "suitable" alternative. Awesome! I'd love to switch. My size for suits (not pant waist) is 38 too! I haven't worn the pants for a couple of years. The last time I wore them outside, a bunch of teenage punks pelted me with rocks and garbage. |

Vaish at Rivoli:
http://www.vaish.com/ http://www.askandyaboutclothes.com/f...ad.php?t=45741 The suggestions about Raymond etc are okay if you want something that looks like its from a budget Western department store (I'm thinking BHS, C&A or JC Penny). Vaish is the only tailor that I've come across in India who matches Saville Row standards. |

My experience in Connaught Place
Hello friends,
I went to two different places on Connaught Place for tailored clothes. I went to a M. Ram's Raymond's which was affiliated with Raymonds, which I discovered accidentally. The owner's surname may have been "Vaish" just like "Vaish Tailors", and I later found out that the two are cousins! I discovered his name when he gave me his business card. This place was a small place, and I ordered 2 shirts, and one linen suit to be made there. This was on December 29th, and I prepaid for them to mail my goods to Tamil Nadu, which they said they could have done by January 5th. They failed to do this, and my relatives at that address will have to forward my items to me to the USA. Anyways, I then went over to Vaish Tailors. There, I got 2 shirts and one pants made, and it was to be shipped to the USA. I chatted with Mr. Vaish, and he was very polite and polished. I brought to his attention that there was a store down the street that seems to use his good name, and then I showed him the business card that I received at the M.Ram's Raymond shop. Mr. Vaish claimed that they are, in fact, cousins, but their quality, although good, is not a premium brand like his was. Also, Vaish Tailors is sending my goods to the USA. Now, here is my complaint: The M. Ram's Tailor really screwed me over in a way. Even after 2 weeks, they have failed to send the goods to my family in Tamil Nadu. When I called up one time on the 6th, he said that I should receive it on the 7th. He was being "polite" I suppose. |

Depending on where you are located in Delhi, there are some good tailors in Lajpat Nagar (south), Karol Bagh (west), or CP (central) Delhi.
