Soul to gaya beyond redemption, sorbo nash/nosh like y'all say?. Asking a Bong for recipes can be dangerous, as they usually start with a lamba bhashan (long lecture). Bhaiyon aur behnon (brothers and sisters), we already know your intellectuality, pleease??

... but i am no mores of a calcuttan jitu - for this lifetime
wonly zeitgeist - no ties to the land
i am into krishna bhavan's mysore paak... for the moment !!!!
wah wah annah !!!! bangla bolcho !!!!
soul hain - jab tak breathing karta !
wish i could take you for a street food tour in that city - hai hai... its so bloody good.
arre baba - lecture nah - oita [that] just an introductory
as for the intellect - eessshhhh.
what is required is intelligence.
its so much more fun being an indian itellya - as opposed to this region or that region crap

Well said!
Are you sure you're not an NRI? That kind of sayings are usually credited to us NRIs, not LLIs (Local Living Indians).

It's been 8 months in kolkata,What I came across is continuous HORN HORN HORN .... unless person dies listening it. Digging road everywhere to solve water logging.Quite impatient for small things( I have stopped counting though, no hard feelings). For vegetarian quite a issue.
Raining when heat goes over. That's nice. Frequency of buses is nice and amazed to see train on road

. Kolkata vs Delhi:-
1) cost of living is very low.
example:- property on rent/for sale is cheap. public transport is cheap. want to buy 50g or 100g tomatoes? you'll get price like "chaar taka sho (rs.4 for 100g), while in delhi the min qty offered is pao (250g), 10 rupaye pao..
another example, you can buy no. of grocery items in sachets, 5 rs. wala maggie, 1 rupee wala shampoo and washing powder, 10 rupees wala kallogs corn flakes etc. etc. so good for small families/ bachelors...
i personally feel that except for property, delhi is not costlier than kolkata. it has variety. what peoople call cheap in kolkata, delhites wont' even want to see that quality of material. you need to pay for the quality/design.
2) culturally rich.
example:- be it durga pujo, lokhi pujo, saraswati pujo, lokenath babaer jonomdin, robindra jayanti, kali pujo, poila boishakh, rath yatra, dol, etc. etc., you'll see the vibrant color of the city. people enjoy whenever they get a chance to.
as delhi is not just a bengali's home, different casts celebrate their festivals (so you can see almost all the festivals in delhi)
3) street food:-
example:- ooh phuchka, jhal / moshla muri, rolls, chop etc. tasty and cheap street food is easily available in kolkata. and yes, variety of sweets and non-veg food.
delhi provides ample options for street food, be it samosas, chhola bhatura, burgers, tikki, golgappa etc. etc.
4) modernism:- kolkatians believe in maintaining the tradition. people are very simple. you'll see traditional fashion, western is not so common as in delhi.
delhi beats kolkata in terms of fashion. people don't compromise on looks. girls are bold and beautiful. some do wear controversial dresses, but that's their personal choice, they do look good to eyes..
5) music:- in kolkata you'll find at least 1 person in almost all the families, who has good knowledge of music and/or dance. kolkatians give respect to dance/music.
i have not seen people too patient to spare some time for music/dance, especially classical, which connects us to our culture...
6) work culture:- had work culture been good, this city would have been on the top. you'll find almost all the shops closed from 1pm-6pm (shopkeepers are busy sleeping after having heavy maach-bhat as their lunch)
i reached office at 9.55am (office time is 10am) and the office was locked. nobody comes to my office before 11-1130am.
people believe in accumulating the work and showing off how busy they are instead of being actually efficient. marwaris are ruling the business as they are hard working, bengalis are serving marwaris for monthly salaries.
delhi is fast and efficient. leave aside govt offices, they are the same all over the country.
7) my overall votes for delhi, of course just the culturally rich and far behind time, will not be my choice..

I think Delhi is smarter in that sense - they did the roads and make enough holes to ensure that when it rains all the water goes into the holes dug rather than stand on the road

Both are equally good
Well frankly speaking, both Delhi and Kolkata have their own ways of living and both are fantastic.
Problem with Delhi is their neighbouring cities Gurgaon, Noida and Ghaziabad which are crime hubs without any administrations. They have just been bought under the umbrella NCR, when neither deserves to be one. And these cities are responsible for crime intrusion into Delhi. Traditionally Delhi is a wonderful city and if one knows how to live, commute and know the place, Delhi is the most wonderful as well as one of the cheapest place to stay. Just one should know where to go for which purpose. Just forget about status and you will achieve everything here.
On the other hand the problem with Calcutta is lack of growth and the lack of the desire to grow. People in calcutta are happy with what they already have. Otherwise culturally, and crime wise, Calcutta is one of the best place to stay. Offcourse education wise entire west bengal is much ahead of any other states. When i refer to education, i am not talking about literacy, but basic education, etiquettes in which very little cities will be comparable to Kolkata.
Foodwise both the places are just wonderful.
