They banned the cows from Chowringhee/New Market area of Calcutta and now there are great stinking piles of garbage on the streets -- is that what they want in Delhi?

It's pity that one day India will be like Singapore, sterile and boring. With everything illegal.

India will never be like Singapore. Indians generally have no respect for the laws of the land, they have their own community rules which they abide by. Sure they will obey govt laws if they are absolutely forced to, but I just can't see the Indian police enforcing bans on spitting, urinating, dropping litter, and all the other things, they don't have the time and there isn't a lot of bribes to be extracted from poor people.
Of course there is this idea that to make Delhi a "World Class City" they have to get rid of all the things that make it Indian. But because it is still actually in India, every one of these initiatives will run into trouble. The attempt to enforce zoning regulations for building use will never be totally successful, and I'm sure you'll still find a few illegal dairies in central Delhi for years to come. |
