Question Classical dance show in Delhi

Hi there,

I am planning my trip to India for the next spring ...so maybe someone can help me – give an advice where can I see good Indian classical dances in Delhi? I had been in India for two times already – but haven’t seen it – I really want to!!!

Hi Simute! Welcome to IndiaMike! I will also be in Delhi shortly and I'm planning to see a lot of classical music and dance, because these are among by greatest passions. I know there are a few places for programmes, but I'll get more chances to know details once I'm there.

The easiest way to find out who is dancing where and when is to buy a "Time Out Magazine" upon arrival, or look up their website before you arrive.

Also some of the venues that often host dance performances have websites on which you can find out what's on:

Great places are:
- The India Habitat Centre http://www.indiahabitat.org

- India International Centre http://www.iicdelhi.nic.in

Another that I have heard aboout but not visisted myself is:
- Kamani Auditorium http://www.kamaniauditorum.org
(The website seems to be stuck in 2004 - but maybe you can call them.)

If you want to see a "quick" overview of Indian classical dances you can go to: Dances of India, Parsi Anjuman Hall, Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, near Delhi Gate. They have a show every night at 6.45. The show is geared to tourists, but decent enough.

I know this place very well (see the name ), and there is always something going on here just keep looking and something will turn up. You can also keep your eyes on ICCR and Triveni Kala Sangam.

I think you are talking about the, Dances of India show head daily at Parsi Anjuman Hall at ITO crossing, Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg.

I have never attended it, but I have heard that it's an excellent one hour show on classical, folk and tribal dances.

To go there ask auto/taxi to drop you at Times of India building at ITO, it's close to that. Very few Auto/Taxi guys will understand Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg.

It is good - I have been there. But not so much of the classical, more of the folk dances around India. Worth going to though - has short exerpts of classical. The Manipuri stick dancing is sensational.

Whilst this is an older thread it is good to keep it updated.

Nobody has mentioned the daily newspapers - Hindustani Times and Times of India for Delhi both, if I recollect, list events and venues for this kind of thing as well as music concerts. The Habitat Centre is often a venue for these.
Every cloud has a silver lining!
