Cigarettes
Am I able to buy cigarettes on arrival at Delhi airport? Are international brands, eg Marlborough or Dunhill easily available?

I haven't seen a lot of stands at IGI. Only some place where you can buy some ultrasweet coffee or chai. Maybe there are vendors outside.

Duty Free
Just to be sure, why not stock-up before you leave/at Duty Free. I fly from the States and always seem to arrive at some obscene hour when nothing is open except the money changers.

I stayed for a while in PG accomodation. I bought some bidi's (like 30 for 7 rupees or so). Later I heard that my landlord told someone that I must be poor. Because I smoked poor peoples cigarettes

bidi is just a sort of rolled up tabacco leaf, its indeed strong. I rather smoke cigarettes. in india you don't have to stop because its extremely cheap. here in NL its 4,30€, a goldflake package is like 1€ for 20 cigarettes...
