Chandni chowk
Hi
I would be visiting delhi(our aim is to just sample the cuisine of chandni chowk) on my way to uttaranchal this december. 1. How far is chandni chowk from the domestic airport? 2. We would be going to old delhi rlwy station after chandni chowk. How far is that? Probably we would catch the ranikhet express which is at about 10.30 pm from old delhi. So how much time should i keep betweeen my flight from pune and ranikhet express? 3. Incase i arrive by train, which is more suitable - Hz. Nizamuddin or New delhi? Thanks. |

1. Distance will be around 20 Kms.
2. It's 10 minutes ride in a pedal rickshaw. You'll need 3-4 hours in Chandni chowk. 3. By train, New Delhi is better, as you can take a metro to Chandni Chowk.

While coming back i would arrive by ranikhet express at 4.50am at old delhi. I would be spending time at chandni chowk then.
My next train leaves at 4 in the afternoon from Hz.Nizamuddin. 1.Can you recommend any cheap hotel near the old delhi for less than 500rs. 2.How far is the akshardham in east delhi from old delhi? 3.Any recommendations on where to eat in old delhi especially sweets, chaat and chole kulche. Wea are vegetarians and brother is coming from US, so would like to visit places with basic hygiene. |

I will send you some recommendations later but just wanted to point out that most of Chandni Chowk opens up after 10am...but restaurants & food joints open earlier (though not as early as 5am).

1) In Kucha Ghasi Ram you get desi ghee jalebis and berhmi.
2) There are some Vaishnav bhojanalays in Fatehpuri nr Khari Baoli. 3) Ghantewala halwai is also good (Haldiram's is not ghee-based). |

Ten good food places in Chandni Chowk area are:
1.Nirmal Paranthas - Excellent Paneer Paranthas, opposite Town Hall, Chandani Chowk 2.Ashok Chaat Bhandar - famous for Kalmi vada and kachalu chutney Hauz Qazi Chowk, at the, entrance of Bazaar Sita Ram 3. Sultan Kullewala - Famous for Kulle ki Chat, Cheera Khana on Nai Sarak. 4. Padam Chaat - Excellent Golgappas Outside Baraf Wali Gali, Kinari Bazaar 5.Daulat Ki Chaat - Not exactly chaat. It's but this super soft whipped up milk Topped with dry fruits and silver varq. It's actually sold from a cart at Dariba Kalan. 6. Giani Di Hatti - Justifiably famous for Rabri falooda. But has shakes, moong halwa and ice creams too, Church Mission Road, Fatehpuri 7. Hazari Lal Jain - Famous for legendary Khurchan (Super condensed dried milk), malai roll and malai laddoo, Kinari Bazaar. 8.Kuremal ki Kulfi & Duli Chand Kulfi wale - They are almost opposite each other. Both serve Good kulfis. 9.Adarsh Bhojanalaya - Marwari bhojanalayas, below Andhra Bank, Chandni Chowk. 10.Kake Di Hatti- Famous for Lunch, Church Mission Road, Fatehpuri I have laready recommended Natraj for Chaat & Dahi Bada, they are known as Bank Wale Dahi Bade also. Ghantewala Halwai at Fawwara chwok is famous and Haldiram's original shop is also nearby. |
