Central Delhi Hotels

We are traveling to India in february. Missed out at MPGH and Yatri. Does anyone have an experience to share regarding Hotel Ajanti across from the New Delhi Railway Station?

If you have a look in the hotel listings here on IM you'll find reviews on Hotel Ajanta. Its on our list of possible hotels for April. Another reccommended was Hotel Prince Polonia. I have absolutly no experience with these hotels but I'm sure others have.

Hotel Ajanta is a couple blocks from RR station(In spite of what they say)... get an inside room since the ones on the street can get kinda noisy... Had a good experience there.. very tourist oriented(provided a top sheet for my bed without asking).. good internet access, and a passable restaurant..

Good location, if you consider that area of New Delhi good.. A bit off the main bazaar which is ok,..not quite as much street traffic.. which is all relative in India..lol...

Re Ajanta Hotel and others, we have a moderate budget. We do want our own bathroom (in case of Delhi Belly!) and a quiet room.

Avoid Paharganj

I would strongly advise you all to avoid staying in Paharganj area, which is filthy, seedy and extremely over-crowded. It is in all the guidebooks just because of its close proximity to new Delhi station.
You can opt for a hotel in Connaught Place, or a little further down south:

A few posts have been deleted from this thread.

A hotel is 'advertised' by a member, the post is deleted, a new member joins and their first post gives a glowing account of how wonderful the same hotel is.

I simply don't believe in such coincidences.

Anyway, as always, first post adds are not allowed on indiamike.com

It's so cheap and easy to get anywhere in Delhi, I wouldn't relegate my choices to the rather "horny" pahar ganj /railway station district. Generally, accomodations get less noisy and less congested the further south you go (provided your not too close to Ring Road).

Yeah but what an intro to India Peak, all the colourful Indian dispora on one street!! Warts and all

"Over crowded" I love it and the seediness well it's limited to one little area. Compared to A'dam it's really quite pleasant.

Not for everyone though!!

I love it between 7pm and 9pm when it becomes, once more a functioning market for local Indians!!

I love the chaos of India but since sleep charges the immune system (much needed in India) - then why not find the quietest guesthouse you can with a little garden, some trees, birds singing etc. ? - you can hit the chaos of India between sunrise and sunset!

To be honest I'm never in cities very long anyway, I'm a country boy but the place I stay in is quiet enough apart from the room boys!!

Noise pollution is one thing but fumes and smog is also a concern. Pretty hard to get away from it entirely in Delhi, but there are some excellent flora-filled areas that make it a bit more country-like and sleep friendly.
