Carry on Bag Allowances

We are departing tomorrow morning for Delhi via Munich. We are very freaked and confused by the carry on bag restrictions and conflicting information. We have three internal domestic flights with Jet Airways and a return flight to Munich with Lufthansa. We are okay with the Lufthansa rules unless they differ for India departures. Jet Airways website says they allow one carry on bag and one laptop bag. Do they mean a laptop bag literally and is the 7kg weight limit for each bag or the total of the two. When I called Jet Airways they said that you could have two carry on bags as long as you had a USA boarding pass and the weight would apply to each bag. How strictly do they inforce the rules and does anyone have certain experience with Jet Airways?
Thank you very much.

Is the internal flight in the same reservation (PNR) as Lufthansa or international carrier? If not, domestically they might enforce the carryon rules differently.

I find many flights originating in India don't really have carry-on limits. I've seen people with small suitcases, plus a backpack, a few shopping bags. a laptop and a huge purse. Last time I left from Mumbai the overhead storage was full after only about half the plane had boarded.

Usually they donot wiegh carry on luggage. If you are able to lift it(and it doesnot look too big) they will not bother about it.

I have travelled with a small(carry on size) strolly suitcase, a laptop backpack(it contained loads of stuff in addition to the laptop) and a handbag/purse(I am a female).

They don't normally weigh it and your jaw will drop upon seeing what local people lug on board with them. I once protested to the crew and got luggage moved because some idiots were hoisting a small trolley in the overhead bin directly over me. No problem, only they needed 3 people to lift it and conveniently didn't store it over their own heads. Don't know what was in it, must have been lead or so. Anyway, There's always the rules, and the enforcement of the rules in India. Although as a foreigner you'll stick ot so better not to overdo things.

Are we talking about domestic or international ? The domestic airlines - 9W,IT,DN,S2 all have insisted on checking my carryon and laptop bag; while international flights all over have allowed me to carry them.

I'm most definitely talking domestic, usually fly with Jet(lite), Kingfisher and just last week with SpiceJet. Did you actually check in your laptop? I'd never, in a million years do that! Then again, I respect the carryon limits, mainly because I don't want the endless arguments about storage space. I usually just carry my bag with laptop, some documents, my ipod and a book or 2. Still, you should see what some other people lug on board...I'm pretty sure they were WAY over any limits. Happens on each flight, even when returning from Leh where they don't have a lot of runway margin on takeoff.

Carry on : One bag and one laptop bag is fine. They dont check the weight most of the times. As other members have pointed out, take care to not overdo it. And typically, if you were OK on Lufthansa you will be OK on jet too.

Check in - Watch out on the checked in baggage...if ur not on the international PNR, then checked in baggage is restricted to 20kgs or 25 kgs depending on the ticket.

Cheers

I am definitely talking domestic(jet, kingfisher, spicejet, indigo......)

I have never been asked to check in any of my carry-on luggage. I usually travel with carry-on luggage only.

BUT I have seen people travelling with huge duffel bags(by no strech of imagination can it be called carry-on sized) being forced to check them in.
