carrom boards in delhi
Everyone at my company plays carrom, and I've been hooked, too. But since they've been playing for years and I've been playing for weeks, I need a board of my own. I'm told they cost Rs 1000-2000, depending on how nice of a board you get. But where do you get them? In all my travels across this city, I have yet to see one for sale.
Thanks for your help. And once I get my board, IMers are all duly invited to come and teach me how to play better. |

I bought mine on Main Bazaar, way back when. Just in one of the multi-purpose shops I think, or maybe selling games & toys. Couple of hundred Rupees for a big board at the time, two or three hundred or so if I recall. Prices will likely have gone up, but 1-2K strikes me as a little steep. A drag to fly it home, LOL, not to mention getting it to the airport in the first place. I remember there was no haggling over them, no matter how I tried.
Anyway it's still very much in working order (despite a hole punctured in it during said flight) & does its job. Note that there are smaller versions, handy for train travel and the likes. Enjoy! Be wary of those guys letting you win a couple of rounds, then daring you to a bet & wiping you off the table ![]()

Yes..Rs 1000 sounds a but steep to me as well...not some something that common Indians would pay for a game..
If you can come down to Karol Bagh then you will get a good deal for the same... |

i once saw a board made from rosewood! i did not even bother asking for the price.
The one is used to have was a 400-500 INR one which i used for almost 10 years. I still have it but dont play anymore really.. Khan market has a toy shop incidentally as well..which is where i bought mine from... dont forget the powder!

OK I give up - what is it? Can we learn to play in India? And is it the type of thing you can play in cafes - like backgammon or something... that is a great way to spend an afternoon and meet people..

Got mine in Paharganj Main Bazaar as well, look for any shop selling chess boards or anything like that, cost me about 400 Rupees - not great quality, but it survived being posted home to Ireland.
Great game, got all my mates into, one of them made his own board...

OK I googled it - despite lots of confusion about the myriad different types I think I see basically what it is... Where would you play it in India? Where are there tables - do you have to go to a special place?

I started playing in a guest house in Lahore...after that, I saw it in various guest houses, and often just by the side of the street (especially down south)....

Oz Carrom Fed.? That's really funny - carrom here is very much a pass time thing - I've often thought I would buy one for the boys but have visions of them sitting around playing this all day when they should be working. I've seen them in beachside cafes in Gokarna, some restaurants in Mcleod Ganj / Manali but you don't see them so much here. I think your son would enjoy the game, kristin. I was interested to read how much they cost to give me some benchmark - think i will buy one at some stage.
