<cross-posted. I've only done it by both these buses, save for a rickshaw ride once, and found them fine and a fun introduction to the city (esp. the city bus), but to each their own.>
There are both a city bus and the so-called EATS bus; the latter is more luxurious & expensive (still, not very expensive). They should stop at or nearby New Delhi Railway Station; Main Bazaar starts right opposite. I've had the city bus drop me at the wrong spot in a hurry here; if you don't know your way, this will leave you inundated by touts & not knowing which way to head for, not all that pleasant to a newcomer I reckon. Note that if for some reason you find yourself at the backside of the station (called Ajmeri Gate I think?), just cross through or over it by the fly-over to find yourself at the right side. The former is also where the pre-paid taxis stop I believe. The EATS bus may or may not call here; if not, they'll drop you at Connaught Place, from where you'll need to take an autorickshaw back to Main Bazaar. Something like a 10-minute ride I reckon (or about a half-hour's walk, not recommended having just arrived with your pack), can't advise on current prices. Used to be around 10 Rs. with some stiff haggling; count on 30 or so (perhaps more today) for a newcomer with their packs in tow. Note that the city bus doesn't go all night I think; the EATS bus will I believe, if less frequently. How long the ride is I don't remember, would depend on time of day and traffic too. See also http://www.newdelhiairport.in/ (New site I think, not sure how informative it is); http://www.toandfromtheairport.com/delhi.html The latter would suggest both buses cost the same now (?) This is about how to reach the tourist office inside the station, but it may help you find your bearings: http://www.indianrailways.gov.in/tou...bureau_idx.htm
