Hey Volga ! I am listening to my Aasma CD as I type this (yes they are a mix of Abba and In Sync sung in Hindi - very top 10 Hindi Pop stuff - i love it) I did get mine in Ansal Plaza (OMG that shopping mall is depressing) at the Music World there. I see on the shopping bag a number of other Music World outlets: "Studio Integrity, M-17, Connaught Circus, New Delhi 23350988" - 20, NWA. Club Road Market, Punjabi Bagh Extn, New Delhi 25173887 . There is a CD music store right next to the Bookworm in CP too.

Check out the new Bally Sagoo CD, its titled "Hanji" and is holding strong in the top 10. It is some great Hindi club dance music. The new Shankar Mahadevan CD "9" is a total keeper too.

Have you been watching the "V - Channel" on television? I think it is somewhere in the 50s on the TV channels? They show Aasma and Bally Sagoo videos all the time. V Channel actually produced the Aasma CD.

Byronic-Did you notice if they also had a classical indian music section at any of these places? I will be there in April and would like to expand my collection! Why is the Ansal Plaza depressing?

Yes the Music World in Ansal Plaza has a huge classical Indian music section that's broken up into all sorts of different styles. I'm not sure about the other Music World stores, they are a chain in Delhi with 8 stores there, but the Ansal Plaza store had a huge selection.

Ansal Plaza is depressing because it is this huge shopping mall based on the American shopping mall model. Its like going to a mall in the USA except with an all Indian cast. Plus it is the center piece of this high rent brand new yuppie condo housing development park in South Delhi. It reminded me of USA style urban sprawl and that was depressing.

I am not sure whether I will find them equally appealing... after all, I don't share your passion for Indian movies

I will try nevertheless... watch this space!

Volga

Just a thought!

If you are going to Rishikesh there are a couple of good music shops on the Swarg Ashram side of the Ram Jhula bridge which stock a range of classical, fusion and religious music CD's.

In Delhi I've bought CD's in a shop near the clothes market on Janpath, on the right hand side past Palika Bazaar going south.

They certainly will in Rishikesh. Not sure about the Delhi shops - I suppose it depends how busy they are. You can only ask.

The guy running the Janpath music shop is the equivalent of the owner of The Bookworm book shop - many years in the business and having a great knowledge of Indian music. I usually take his recommendations.

Ooops!! Cross post from radz. Didn't see it before I posted.

That answers your question.
